I’d go so far as to place it in place of the rogue’s expertise or reliable talent, depending on how big a deal it is. Just a passive, “your allies have this bonus to a skill you choose (that you’re proficient in) when you gain this feature” or “when you and your allies make a group ability check, or when one or more of your allies are using the Help action on an ability check, they treat a roll of X or lower as a roll of Y”

Basically, the idea is that the warlord makes the group better at a task via facilitating better cooperation. A skill monkey by proxy.

Not bad! The trick will be to put it into proper 5e parlance. Is 'goup ability check' a defined thing in the rules?

I also wish there was a Morale stat because a Rabble Rouser would be good at manipulating it. Alas... I wish I had a way to mechanically make that subclass good at undermining authority :p Maybe as a ribbon I'd give it the ability to create your own cant for secret message talk?

you are adept at ensuring all the basics are covered in group activity (insert 5e friendly stuff)
die rolls under X are treated as X by all allies in the task. May also reduce time to perform
Creative Inspiration
you are adept at bringing out better more extreme positive performances in team activities maybe enable longer durations of effect or in some general fashion achieve noticeably greater results in skillful group activities that you participate in than normal. Maybe give better crit chances to everyone?

I also want to make such a subclass for my marshal. I wonder if there is room in either of our classes for an ability to grant a simple, fairly small, bonus to your whole team in a specific skill?

Aside from the dscussion on Rabble Rouser, I don't think I've gotten you're opinion on my current subclasses? And the changes I made compared to the last version.

I mean, the base class already has 'Seasoned Instructor' to help out with skill checks...

Ardent Soul :

Strong Personality is the feature I like the least of the Ardent. I still feel like it's a bit weaksauce. I do like the flavor of raising your maximum Charisma score though. So much so I stole it for the Chosen One subclass.

Do you have anything for getting umm npc volunteers to join you... after seeing you in action I added a daily to the 4e Warlord that allowed an enemy to switch allegiance after seeing you performing a mighty stroke with the attendant quick in combat explanations of why our cause is the right thing too of course oh and they have to be defeated in the battle when reduced to zero hit points they have one of those ... death bed change of hearts (or did they get brain damaged hmmm hard to be sure)
They become your minion.

Yeh individual checks but I am wanting the representation of helping the whole team... ie everyone has a minimum on their roll... etc etc.. You are helping the team coordinate better together. And with different techniques you can define your approach to teamwork

That sounds cool... but also likea NIGHTMARE to write down in rules terms... I'd rather not try to tackle that kind of shenanigans outside of a video game.

LOL it was based on a power from the Shadow expansion to 4e. I actually made it more complicated than it needed to be because I was making a Controller build Warlord

That's still a LOT of text to translate in that 5e 'natural language' thing... even if I cut the special section... You know it would have to include a Charisma or Wisdom saving throw.

I think the main issue is needing minion/zealot mechanics though one can ignore the ac penalty since 5e doesn't have diverging armor class they are now zealot and pay attention to you and your state more than their own. attacks against them are double damage. When their hit points are below half of their total they will flee battle or crumple in fear and start second guessing their allegiance. Use DM fiat for a few details... ie if you want them to last longer because its fun story do.
