Dragonlance WotC Officially Confirms Takhisis and Tiamat Are The Same

It's been an issue in dispute for decades, over various editions of D&D, but WotC has officially confirmed that - at least in 5E - Dragonlance's Takhisis is, indeed, currently Tiamat. In previous editions, Tiamat has varied from being a big dragon to a minor goddess, while Takhisis has been a greater god on Krynn. At times they've been the same entity, and at others different entities. Today...

At times they've been the same entity, and at others different entities. Today, WotC is putting its foot down and saying that Takhisis and Tiamat are, indeed, the same being.



Of course, this is not an opinion universally held. Dragonlance co-creator Margaret Weis emphatically stated that "TAKHISIS IS NOT TIAMAT, DAMN IT!"

She is still a goddess in DiA, not sure why Reynard thinks otherwise. I quoted a passage from the adventure upthread that refers to her as a goddess and her divine power.
Yes. Sorry I knew she is a goddess in DiA but it was calling her a demon lord that was confusing because she is connected to the Baator.

In my head, they are separate, for the reasons people have already mentioned: The differences in power/significance and the fact that the death of one does not seem to affect the other. It is fairly unlikely that it will ever matter in a campaign I run, but in the event that it does they will be separate there also.

Out of curiosity, what is that explanation?
