Sex at the Table

I run a pretty adult game, even when my family is involved, but sex and sexuality are 100% off screen. Secession, romance, etc., are all parts of my world, but I think it takes the exact right group to have any of that happen at the table.

I loved the Critical Role playthrough of Monsterhearts. That game includes sex and sexuality elements as items on their character sheets, but I think it would be extremely hard for many of us to be comfortable playing that with our current groups.

All of it 100% fade to black if included at all. I can tell you right now the 'Ogre Scene' would have had laughs around the table, but nobody would be interested in 'can I get this NPC/Henchman/Companion in the sack'.

It certainly makes the game more 'real' to have some of these things addressed, but its not something everyone is there for if that makes sense.

Obviously discussed in the other thread but for the sake of completeness…

- PCs being in relationships and having connections romantic or otherwise = Fine and encouraged.

- Cracking lewd jokes up to the point it becomes disruptive = Fine but not necessarily encouraged.
Our groups are pretty ‘mature’ (word seems to seem something different to Larrian) so it’s not really an issue for us.

- Describing intimate details and romantic encounters, acting them out, or trying to explore sexual fantasies as part of a role playing game = No thanks.
Don’t want to have to improvise it as DM, don’t want to have to observe it as a player.

For the record, I think some of the best actors struggle with this kind of thing, I’m humble enough to admit I (and I suspect most other amateurs) would make it particularly cringeworthy.

Spinning out of the BG3 thread...

How, if at all, do you incorporate sex in your RPG games? Do love, lust, romance, and other adult interactions have a place in your games? How do you feel about sex in RPGs as a player? As a GM? Is sex between PCs better or worse than sex between PCs and NPCs, or sex between NPCS? If sex does appear in your games, to what degree? When does the camera cut away? Do you use some sort of mechanics for sex?

Also, big note here: this is about consensual sex -- consensual both at the table between participants, and in the fiction of the world.
Sex scenes are very rare at my table, but they come up from time to time. When one arises, we always use the Fade To Black technique that others have described. "The two of you share a lingering embrace, and the scene fades to black."

In-game sexual intercourse is a red-card issue for two of my players so we never narrate sexual encounters any further, no exceptions.

Also, point of order: there is no such thing as "non-consensual sex."

My table is more like James Bond movies where I might have a terrible/cool name for an encounter and the player might tell me what they want and then fade to black. It might just fade after they tell me what they are looking for and how much they are spending if it is part of a storyline where they are invited to a party or such. There may be a roll at that point to see what they actually get for the money.

The players have their PCs explore relationships as they see fit. Stuff happens between NPCs as necessary. All within role play expectations of the game.

Now, the physical act itself? No, we do not role play or describe any of that. Fade to black occurs and everyone is good with that.
