* I suspect the Weavers aren't a new creature, but an update or retcon of the "spellwavers".
Bingo! They are one and the same. The picture in Shattered Obelisk isn’t even new. It’s the Spellweaver art from 4e!

So, spell weavers being a remnant of an earlier, erased multiverse apparently isn't new lore, but actually goes back to 3E. 2E had them being from "an alternate Prime Material Plane".

Also of note - Vecna had a part in transforming the 2E multiverse into the 3E multiverse (or at least it's very heavily implied).

So did Vecna discover the spell weavers' knowledge during his time as an uber-god at the end of 2E, and then erase the weavers' "alternate" Material Plane? Leaving the rest as refugees?

Or, alternatively... do spell weavers still exist in the 5E canon at all? Or was their appearance in 4E their last gasp, before Vecna erased them entirely, creating the current 5E canon? Do we have Vecna to thank for the current version of 5E?

I think k WotC plans to use Vecna to set themselves up for the future shortly, however they do it.

I would posit that they do exist in 5e, but because knowledge of them was erased, no one knows about them. I wouldn't put it past Vecna to actually set it up so anyone who sees one actually forgets about it entirely.

I'm 100% thinking that Vecna is responsible for every version of D&D past 2nd edition now.

Well, he has always been the ultimate D&D baddie: now Stranger Things has super cemented that in pop culture, they will lean into it harder.

Indeed!

Also, do you remember where in the book you found that spoiler from the other thread? I've been looking for it in the Shattered Obelisk and I can't find it.
