Excellent! *That* is how you play Kingdom. Nicely done!

So I decided last night I'm going to GenCon...

Indeed. Major Wesely is taking requests right now for GenCon plans, whether that's Braunstein or talking about what it was like to GM Dave Arneson back before Blackmoor and D&D.

More Braunstein stuff, including scans of player handouts from the 2008 games and recreations of the original handouts from the game 40 years ago: http://arsludi.lamemage.com/index.php/106/braunstein-memories/

Braunstein: the Roots of D&D (Dave Arneson & Major Wesely)

GenCon schedule correction: there was an error in the listing which they've now cleared up. Both sessions are really running from noon to 4 pm, not noon to 2 pm. Play The Braunstein Game Fri noon-4 pm (SEM00151), Embassy Suites - Ambassador II Sat noon-4 pm (SEM00152), Embassy Suites -...

Definitely drop in Mark. They had free pre-reg to get a headcount, but that's all closed now so it doesn't matter.

Braunstein: the Roots of D&D (Dave Arneson & Major Wesely)

Thanks everybody. Major Wesely just replied to the article, so you can get more straight from the source. Mark you should definitely come to the Braunstein sessions if you can make it. We're getting a crowd together for the Friday session. Anybody else in?

Braunstein: the Roots of D&D (Dave Arneson & Major Wesely)

I've put together an article about Braunstein from talking to David Wesely at GenCon 2005 and 2007. He's the guy that ran it 40 years ago. What's Braunstein? It was the game Dave Arneson played in before he ran Blackmoor. It was basically the first roleplaying game, the direct ancestor of D&D...

Tell me about your Superheroes game!

It doesn't have to be that way -- I ran an M&M campaign that ran for about 120 sessions. The trick is to resist the temptation to just throw in the villain/slugfest of the week and include overarching story and character arcs instead. Explore the backstory for each hero and weave it into the...

    Mutants and Masterminds essentials?

Got it -- Best. Feedback. Ever. Coyote6's dry delivery was killing me: "Generally, this scene was rather funny. The players had fun smashing [killer robot] vending machines - Asphalt employed his kung fu to punch through one's "chest" and rip out its "heart" (a Diet Pepsi)."

    Mutants and Masterminds essentials?

Much love to my playtesters (and all playtesters really), for they are the life blood of a good game. Now I'm trying to match the forum name to a player name. If you playtested Dr Null: Battle on the Bay Bridge that narrows it down to 20 or 30 people... ;)

    Mutants and Masterminds essentials?

Avatar_V, if you're looking for an adventure to try out the system, check out Dr Null: Battle on the Bay Bridge. It's a free download, and if your heroes don't have fun you are guaranteed your money back. Welcome to M&M!

    Making Modules Easier to Use

Thanks Hussar. In addition to being a kick-ass adventure, Dr Null: Battle on the Bay Bridge was designed to be something of a showcase for assorted game design ideas like Action Shticks, annotated maps, Revelations, etc. Which also highlights something I'd recommend to JustinA: if you really...

    Making Modules Easier to Use

Absolutely. Check out the annotated maps in Dr Null: Battle on the Bay Bridge (free download). They include things like hazards, toughness of objects that were likely to get smashed, stats for vehicles on the bridge, etc.

    Making Modules Easier to Use

This is a topic near and dear to my heart. You're absolutely right that adventure design hasn't made fantastic progress. If you open a module from 1980, it doesn't look that different than an adventure now. Where are the leaps forward, where are the flying cars? When I started writing...
