    D&D 5E The Grappler's Manual (2.0) - Grappling in 5th Edition

I didn't say anything about Shapechange. Shapechange is an odd spell that deserves its own careful consideration as far as building a grappling character, so let's put that aside for now. As far as Wish goes, you wouldn't cast that on the same days that you use Prismatic Wall. As far as...

    D&D 5E The Grappler's Manual (2.0) - Grappling in 5th Edition

The new Swords Bard is a better Grappler than Valor, but that aside: Yes, and I have thoughts: Spiritual Weapon? A thousand times no. You should have the Tavern Brawler feat and your bonus action should be busy. Or maybe Shield Master. Either way, there are amazing things to do with Magical...

    D&D 5E The Grappler's Manual (2.0) - Grappling in 5th Edition

EDIT: Oh, now I see, the Concentration requirement drops away with 5th level slots or higher! Very nice, great combo! I would certainly rule that you get the extra 1d8 every time the target takes damage from one of your spells, which means each step (5 feet). But some might rule that it's only...

    D&D 5E The Grappler's Manual (2.0) - Grappling in 5th Edition

There's nothing about the spell that suggests that it would not continue to apply if you change shape. In fact, the spell increases speed, not walking speed. That means that climbing, swimming, burrowing, and fly speeds are all increased just like walking speed. While technically true, many DMs...

    D&D 5E The Grappler's Manual (2.0) - Grappling in 5th Edition

First of all, there's no point to taking 1 level of Fighter off the bat. Heavy armor is of no use, as you can't rage in heavy armor anyway. So either take two levels or just save Fighter for later. Secondly, extra attack is key. I'd recommend picking Fighter or Barb and just sprinting straight...

    D&D 5E The Grappler's Manual (2.0) - Grappling in 5th Edition

I have a character that is all about leaping into the air and dropping opponents. Pro tip: For an extra level of difficulty, maintain the grapple during the fall! Many will say that if you can jump a certain height, you can land safely as well. This could be bad if you maintain the grapple, as...

    D&D 5E The Grappler's Manual (2.0) - Grappling in 5th Edition

I'm of similar mind to Yunru, as you can see from my Barb/Rogue described in an earlier post. That said, I'm not expert in Battlerager. Why are you interested in a Battlerager/Fighter build? Is there a particular synergy or combo that you're looking to achieve? Regardless, I'd probably...

    D&D 5E The Grappler's Manual (2.0) - Grappling in 5th Edition

While it is true that the Grappler Feat does SOMETHING, it's generally a trap in that it will be a far inferior choice than another Feat or Ability increase. For the majority of grappler builds, you are best served by knocking your opponent prone while they're grappled. This makes sure they have...

    D&D 5E The Grappler's Manual (2.0) - Grappling in 5th Edition

We're way off topic here, and I apologize for that. But I will just say that things animated by magic do not automatically get to do magic damage. Golems do, but many other constructs do not. That includes the flying sword, a very close analogue to a swarm of temporarily animated daggers...

    D&D 5E The Grappler's Manual (2.0) - Grappling in 5th Edition

Huh... that's interesting. It's not exactly right, but close. Most stat blocks with resistance seem to say "bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing from nonmagical attacks" and similar wording. Doesn't say weapon damage, but does say from attacks, which is not what Spike Growth does. This also lines...

    D&D 5E The Grappler's Manual (2.0) - Grappling in 5th Edition

Catapult, just off the top of my head. There is by no means a consensus on whether spells that use the environment to do piercing, bludgeoning, or slashing damage are doing magic damage. In my experience most rule that such damage is mundane, but talk to your DM, your mileage may vary.

    D&D 5E The Grappler's Manual (2.0) - Grappling in 5th Edition

I also play in AL and I can tell you, DMs already are a bit confused and put off by grappling because it's a bit unusual. Some need convincing that grappled opponents can't stand up from being prone, or that I can grapple two opponents at the same time if I have two free hands. So trying to...

    D&D 5E The Grappler's Manual (2.0) - Grappling in 5th Edition

That is true. If you go that route, I'd recommend you aim for Fighter 1/ Bard 3 first. With advantage and one attack, you can at least grapple and throw opponents off of cliffs or take two rounds to knock them prone. At Fighter 2 / Bard 3 you unlock Action Surge, which allows you to lock down...

    D&D 5E The Grappler's Manual (2.0) - Grappling in 5th Edition

Good questions. There's definitely no exact answer, but I can share my own experience. I have 5 grappling characters: Barbarian 6 / Rogue 4 - Jumping Domination Probably my most potent grappler and a ton of fun to play. Human with Tavern Brawler (increased unarmed damage and bonus action...
