Scifi/ post apoc traps and puzzles

Years ago playing Gamma World. Came upon an automated city devoid of life (robots, automated guns, etc). It was very deadly until we figured we could gain control. The computer system was heavily protected but we were able to "hack it" by literally holding an election, and as the only people...

D&D 5E Forbiddance - Subject to Cover or Bunker Buster?

PCs pursuing a vampire to its crypt. They want to cast Forbiddance from the relative safety of being behind a couple sets of stone doors. Assuming the casting is not interrupted, would the forbiddance extend through the cover? If not, it seems a challenge to do its primary function, protecting...

    D&D 5E Removing save-each-turn mechanic

I think it is balanced the way you suggest. You could play test by making it an option for casting above level, if everyone chooses it, then it is probably too good, if no one does, it is probably not the solution you want. Another option I've seen is making all Spell Saving throws an action...

    D&D 5E On Lingering Injuries

I have a modified chart with more emphasis on annoying rather than taking you out injuries, and a reasonable mix of serious, moderate and minor injuries. Typically the minor need 3rd level healing or higher, moderate 6th level or higher, and the serious a regenerate or heal spell. Some of them...

    D&D 5E On Lingering Injuries

I've made them options, when PCs make a death save, they can instead roll on lingering injury chart (once per rest). So far no one has taken the option. But then so far the healers have still been up when people went to 0 hps.

D&D 5E KO and Death Saves

I find it interesting that several people talk about PCs being knocked out "for story reasons", presumably they were being lethally attacked for "story reasons" too. I'm not sure why that would make a difference. What if the scenario was a "bar fight - wrestling and fisticuffs." No one is...

D&D 5E KO and Death Saves

IF an NPC tries to knock out a PC (or vice versa) and reduces her to 0 hps she is unconscious and stable. Would you allow her to make Stabilization rolls anyway in hopes she can roll a 20 and gain an HP and wake up?

    Alternate Wild Magic Surge Tables

I made an alternate table that worked with the spell cast. Or at least that is the idea. Spell has no visual or audial components, the effect happens without anyone knowing expect those affected. Spell makes a loud boom. All creatures in a 40ft radius make a DC8 Con save or be deafened for 1...

    Healing Cantrip

    1. Not sure what sort of games you play in. No pulp fiction gimp suits in mine :) 2. I'm not really sure how that is different from regular healing? Tie someone up and heal them just a little, interrupt their long rests so they can't heal up all the way. Honestly there are lots of ways to 'go...

    Healing Cantrip

So, the intent of the spell was not to replace the cure wounds and healing word spells. Instead, like Spare the Dying, it was meant as a sort of a last ditch healing effort, to keep a player in the game, and discourage taking lots of short or long rests. But, unintended consequences and uses...

    Wilder Surges

I have a player interested in playing a Sorcerer Wild Mage. We both are fine with the Wild Surge chart, but a little underwhelmed. What we'd both like would be something that has more to do with spells actually cast. In other words, we'd like his spells themselves to be affected. I was working...

    Summon Monster for 5E

Starting to use this. I added a couple of clarifications for my game: 1. Requires Concentration (they disappear without concentration) 2. Bonus Action to command, stand idle once it has completed its command. 3. Average Hitpoints 4. Standard Equipment doesn't include magic items (those are made...

    Summon Monster for 5E

I like it! I modded it slightly to keep it in line with some of the conjuring spells and made it summon a Celestial, Fey or Fiendish version of the creature, and dropped the summon the same creature thing, not quite right for my game.

    Healing Cantrip

I hadn't thought of that. My gamers haven't really gone that direction. One solution would be to limit it to humanoids and beasts, another might be to require a moment of concentration, thus breaking concentration on other spells.

    Healing Cantrip

I specifically added "touch an injured creature" to prevent it from being used as an attack. So technically you'd need to wound them, then Stitch them, for that to work. So, I'd be okay with that application, though I wouldn't condone it in a pc.
