    So a level 20 monk with 2d10 unarmed would have this progression as a successful check? When using the action? This is also not including INA right? 2d10 -> 4d8 (+1) -> 6d8 (+2) -> 8d8 (+3) -> 12d8 (+4) -> 16d8 (+5) (colossal+)

Keep the AC bonus untyped. This helps the monk in many ways and specifying it only limits options they might want later for dodge or evasive builds. It's not that over the top. The unarmed progression is better since one of the most useful feats that stacks with it is Improved Natural Attack...

Monk's aren't immune to Resurrection, that much is noted. But just about any useful spell, ability or effect that helps humanoids is negated. There aren't many beneficial spells aimed towards outsiders so its more of a hindrance. And the 'proficiency' thing is just to kill any rules lawyers...

IMO its only a bit better, still not something I would take full progression for. -level 20 ability is still a trap -monk still isn't proficient with unarmed strikes (lol) Looks like most of it is feat replications save for the nice skill boost and Zen ability. Like Dandu said, their BAB is...

    Dealing with UMD

Unfortunately I suck at the true 'optimization' even if most of my characters come out top in my party, I know they are far from the epic powers of what others have made. (Even just looking at Seto shows I'd get creamed and laughed at.) Plus, my probable lack of material would most likely...

    Dealing with UMD

Indeed, the fighter was just a throw out example for one that would benefit a bit from having no caster ability. There's probably many other classes/builds that are non casters or poor casters that would utilize such. Rogue would probably make a better 'Joker' to take down the 'Batman' with...

    Dealing with UMD

Interesting thread, but it really only tells me really a few things; -Monks aren't optimized for UMD abuse. (Apparently they just plain suck regardless, even in this example unless against crappy casters. Not something I was unaware of.) -Batman still wins. Big surprise? This unfortunately...

Link works fine, reading it now. The forum occasionally does that. Simple refresh works most times.

    Dealing with UMD

@Dannyalcatraz Well I suppose in that case it seems fine to allow the use to stand up to spellcasters a bit more especially in later levels, but what about the 'wear and use anything' attribute to the skill? Especially when it gets higher in levels? Racial restrictions won't matter (especially...

    Dealing with UMD

Dannyalcatraz Hrm, well I am mostly a player, not a DM. This issue arose when someone was discussing it. To us it seemed like it was quite over the top. Plus we heard UMD is usually banned by most or limited. Which if what is said is true, why? If its not so bad, or hardly any benefit why do...

    Dealing with UMD

Dannyalcatraz I suppose this is true, but its usually calculated into most scroll costs anyways for most average players. Was mainly noting that other than the XP, buying and making the scroll aren't much different. Even those casting it have problems with the materials. But besides the...

    Dealing with UMD

Dannyalcatraz Well in most cases, the only thing is the XP. Since from what I see from most people 'optimizing' the cost for scrolls and the like never seems to be an issue for them compared to the power. Secondly, they don't need to emulate a class feature to use Shapechange. Just get a...

    Dealing with UMD

Well, UMD allows more than just being able to use wands or scrolls. IIRC it allows one to use items with powers for specific races, classes (or class features) and essentially anything that might have to do with you being something else or not having. The difference between a Druid and a...

    Dealing with UMD

Dannyalcatraz Well its usually the case when one person uses it ALOT and then others start to see it and want to as well. The main thing is, its not always the DM supply. Whats to stop players from making scrolls to give people or other items normally they couldn't use? Kinda defeats the line...

    Dealing with UMD

We've noticed through playing and through numerous other sources that those who sink into the UMD skills make the game quite troublesome in many cases. (IE: Fighter with Shapechange, congrats you win.) I was kinda curious, how do you guys deal with UMD? Do you simply outright ban it? Limit it...
