Can you use the -5 attack,+10 damage feature of the Great Weapon Master feat, while using a longsword as a two handed weapon, thanks to the versatile trait? The long sword is not listed as a heavy weapon though. Has this been sage answered?

I am 23 and play old-school games because I find them better for me. No nostalgia here. I find kinda disturbing someone can hate other people's fun.

I am currently running a long term campaign that is a mix of B/X, AD&D and some d20 light. But's more S&S - no demi-humans, no paladins, rangers or druids.

To the OP: EGG said here in ENWorld, and back in AD&D DMG, that he wanted to keep the game humano-centric, and humans as the main protagonists of the game.

EGG said that an 8th level Fighter in OD&D would be like Conan. That's also very hard to kill in OD&D.

The way you describe D&D, which I agree with generally, is pretty much sword & sorcery to me.

IMHO, all this stuff is secondary, accessory, cosmetic. In D&D, stuff from other places gets "adapted" to the D&D world. It does not enter it, unchanged. For example, the Medusa, a unique mythic ultra powerful monster of ancient Greece, in D&D is just more canon fodder that will be encountered...

We agree D&D has recieved all those influences. My point is that during it's history, the S&S influence got reduced, and the HF one increased. And that also brought rules changes

While all this trully makes a unique WORLD, I don't see it as making up a new genre. Narnia and Middle-earth are two unique worlds, that belong to the HF genre. Hyboria and Newton are two unique worlds, that belong to the S&S genre.
