D&D 5E ForgedAnvil D&D 5E Character Generator

I have a small issue with Eldritch Knights. The sheet only allows for initial spells to be abjuration or evocation. However, according to page 75 of the PHB, one of the 3 initial spell can be on any school.

Once you choose Eldritch Knight, look at the top, right-hand side of the Spellcasting tab.

First, along with everyone else, thanks for this sheet, an awesome and no doubt massive piece of work.

As an intermediate standard DM, running his first campaign in the 5th ed rules for a bunch of brand new players, this has already proven invaluable for helping them create their characters, and give them the chance to play around with stuff before settling on their choices.

But as with every spreadsheet there are always going to be bugs, and we have stumbled across one.
I couldn't find this mentioned anywhere else, and skimmed back to the comments that seem to cover version 1.60 and found no mention. This is the version generating the bug.
In the attached screenie you can see the excerpt from the spellcasting page of a level 1 Cleric. Under the level 2 - level 5 spell lists it says "Select your spells - 2 remaining", but as a level 1 cleric these aren't available yet. I beleieve this is related to the domain spells. The spells aren't listed in the spell area (See drop down on the screenie) so it's only the count at the bottom that appears to be affected. It also occurs at levels other than 1, and of course once you hit level 9 it's no longer an issue.
A similar effect occurs using the druid class, once you pick the origin at level 3.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the feedback and awesome to hear you and your group are finding the generator useful!

The "Select your spells - 2 remaining" shouldn't be showing (these are only for your domain spells). I believe I have fixed it in v1.61 as I've been working on custom classes.

Thanks and have fun!

thanks !

Brand new to EnWorld. Just found this thread poking around looking for 5th edition character sheets....

Thank you very much for making this character generator.

Question - do you have a version of the spreadsheet that is blank without valued entered? I d/l version 1.60 and I have been going through and clearing out the data so I can create a new character. I might have done something wrong, but it seems like the behavior of the Spells Prepared section is not what I expected.

See picture that I attached to this post.

Seems like the Cantrip field is a little weird. It is also telling me to select third, fourth and fifth level spells for a 3rd level Cleric.

Any guidance would be appreciated. I really love this spreadsheet.

thanks,

df

Once you reach 3rd level as a Eldritch Knight, look at the top of the Spellcasting tab. On the far right of the page there is a place for EK spells. This is where the non-abjuration/evocation spells can be selected, and once they are entered there the spell will also be available for selection in the Prepared / Known area.

If the spreadsheet you downloaded already has data entered, you've got the Example Character version. All is not lost, though, as you can easily clear all of it out with the Ctrl+Shift+S command (assuming you are using excel and can execute macros). If you want to clear the custom area, too, make sure to select that option first.

ForgedAnvil has done an astounding job with this spreadsheet, there is no denying that. However, changing classes and / or levels can leave some leftovers that have to be manually corrected and it can be a little confusing. In the example given a few post ago with the spellcasting page, the spreadsheet was showing 5 cantrips used when only 4 were allowed. This is a classic sign of old data that has not been cleared.

For example, if I were creating a Druid (Circle of the Land), I would be allowed to enter 3 cantrips. But then I decided I want to use the Circle of the Moon instead....but the Moon druids only have 2 cantrips! Whoops! Now the sheet says that I have 3 (in red) out of 2 allowed cantrips selected! Worse, I can't correct this because I only see two cantrips! The way to fix this is to go back to being a Land druid, remove the 3rd cantrip (which you can see again), and then go back to being a Circle of the Moon druid.

Hope that helps, if only a little!

Sometimes we need to step backward first before we can go forward.

Hey Conandar, thanks for the feedback! The cantrip example is the text is still there you can't see it as it is white text. To correct it just highlight the cells below the ones that are yellow in the cantrips known list and hit delete.

I've changed this behavior to make it grey like all other text if the cell is not yellow (don't know why I didn't do this earlier). If there are other fields like this that you come across let me know!

Custom Subclass - Initial Layout

So here's an initial layout and some of the things that you will be able to customise.

- A subclass is dependent on the base class for features and the level they are gained
- For each subclass "feature" a level requirement is needed and in some cases details or a dropdown selection is provided.
- Bonus spells (e.g. Domain, Oath etc.) are assigned by the base class - for example if you're a cleric, they will be domain spells, if you're a paladin they will be oath spells etc.
- Weapon proficiencies are assigned a single level requirement for all selected
- Armor proficiencies are assigned a single level requirement for all selected

Any comments on other stuff that's not shown below are very welcomed. Can't guarantee they'll be implemented but it'd be good to hear feedback during the development stage.

It's coming along pretty well - still some major work to go.

Spell Questions

Okay, another question.

I created a blank character sheet with cntrl+shft+S.

I created a 3rd level cleric with Tempest Domain.

I attached a screenshot of the spell selection screen. Two questions:

It shows in red letter text, "Select your spells - 2 remaining" for 3rd, 4th and 5th level spells. That should not apply for a 3rd level cleric.

Minor point for sure. Love the spreadsheet. Thanks.
