How Do Mobile Devices Affect Your Game?

I run my 13th age game off of a Surface Pro. I have PDFs of all the books and I store my game data in OneNote so I can annotate it. Our other DM uses a laptop. Everyone else at the table uses a tablet or a laptop and keeps the books and character sheets in PDF form. I'm too old to haul bagsful...

D&D Psionics Survey; Plus "First Major Mechanical Expansion" Coming?

I wonder if they are using the word "expansion" to mean "fix."

    D&D 5E Counterspell vs Counterspell

No you cant. "A" casts a fireball. "B" casts counterspell. "A" can cast counterspell to counter "B's" counterspells but he loses the fireball if he does so. He cannot counter the counter "during" his own fireball. He cannot cast 2 spells at once. He has to stop the fireball and cast counterspell...

D&D 5E Why is the wizards site so hard to navigate?

I got a survey from WotC about the organization of the website. I pretty much told them that it was horribly laid out. I also told them that the only way I can even find new content is to come here to the news page on EnWorld and use that link back to the appropriate place on WotC's site. The 4e...

D&D 5E How would you ensure longevity and sustainability for 5th Edition?

I did not insinuate anything. I responded to what you said and pointed out that the "some" people whom you referenced were incorrect. Publishing new settings did not kill 2e. Outside factors did that. New settings actually brought TSR (back in 2e) a lot of money and kept it afloat for many years...

D&D 5E How would you ensure longevity and sustainability for 5th Edition?

"Some" say the moon is made of green cheese or the Earth was created in seven days, that doesn't make it true. Setting publications brought in money for TSR during the 2e era. Mismanagement and a nasty divorce are what did it in mainly. Game publishers have to publish stuff to make money and...

    D&D 5E Creating a Lost/Ruined City

City by the Silt Sea from the Dark Sun setting has a good map of a city destroyed by calamity. Change the dust to ocean and it makes a good coastal ruin. I've reused it lots of times over the years.

D&D 5E Which edition easiest to adapt to 5e?

Third probably. Fifth is basically the same as third minus the prestige classes and skill point math. The saves are different but that is easy enough to fix.

D&D 5E Monster Tactics: How Ruthless a DM are you?

I play them based on their tactical skill and alignment. Unless the blue dragon you described was overconfident, unfamiliar with wizards or tactically stupid, I'd have had it shred the wizard. Wizards are glass cannons. They do too much damage and are too fragile for enemies who are familiar...

D&D 5E PROBLEM with Banishment Spell

It isn't illegal to make a copy of a book you own for your own use.

    D&D 5E Dropping a Weapon

The DM is certainly free to allow this, but any interaction that involves an "and" is actually more than one interaction.

D&D 5E PROBLEM with Banishment Spell

And what makes you think: 1. that it was a PDF, and 2. it was illegal?

    D&D 5E Conjure Minor Elementals

I noticed this too. This is one of the many areas where it would have been nice if they published a list of what qualifies so you don't have to manually scour the MM looking for them.

D&D 5E Paladin's Aura of Devotion and Dominate Person

I assume you are referring to the Aura of Devotion. Deep in the text of the dominate spells they say that the target is charmed. Aura of devotion protects against charm. It's very poor writing but the answer is pretty definitive.

D&D 5E DMG Excerpt: Creating a New Race

Trivia: The men of rohan are ordinary men. The men of Gondor are descendants of Elrond's brother Elros; they have some elf blood and some angelic blood (maiar). That's why Aragorn could kick ass like he did.

D&D 5E DMG Excerpt: Creating a New Race

That's basically what they were in 4e. They are the original high fey; the sidhe from myth and legend. What humans call "elves" are decendents of the eladrin who left the feywild and came to live in the mortal world. There is a very cool backstory for this in Eberron. The novel "Fading Dream"...

D&D 5E DMG Excerpt: Creating a New Race

Seriously? You think the difference between Tolkien elves isn't confusing? Almost no one can tell that Legolas and Galadriel are different subraces of elf unless that person is very steeped in Tolkien lore. Most people can't even tell that Galadriel and her husband are different subraces. There...

D&D 5E Firearms, Explosives and You

Agreed, but it's not just an issue with firearms. It's an overall limitation of the combat system. It can't model weapon differences well other than by increasing die size. It doesn't add random plusses anymore for more powerful weapons so it's the only way the system has left to make a weapon...

D&D 5E How Close do you stick with the Game As Written?

When WotC stops using words like "the DM will adjudicate how this works" in their products I'll consider RAW. I usually give the players advance notice of the house rules at the beginning at the beginning of the campaign and then follow those and the published rules as RAW unless something is...
