    So..tell me about Eberron

This is definitely my favorite thing from Eberron. I've always before hated elves, but Eberron gave some new culture options with the Aerenal and the Valenar to make them cool again. Especially the Valenar -- a culture that likes to fight to bring honor to their ancestors? Their culture and...

    Minor rant on Fear spells...

Well, the Fear spell is a 30' cone. And then of course there's Symbol of Fear. If cast on an overwhelming group, fear effects can let you divide up the encounter so you don't have to fight all the enemies at once -- or possibly at all. It's main usage would be when you don't have to worry...

    Unorthodox Eberron Campaign

Oh, you probably shouldn't have to worry about the Craft skill -- the main deal with artificers is that they create magic items, which only requires feats, which the class gets. All they have to do to make them is with the approprate feat, spend 1/2 of the market price in gp and 1/25 of the...

    Marry Christmas everyone!

    I hate monks

While I can understand the problem with the flavor, for some reason it's never struck me as too Asian. Not sure why really, I just throw in monastaries into places with a high degree of lawfulness, and the flavor kinda works itself out. Tempted to take out the specifically Asian weapons...

How easy do you find it to run NPC party members?

You're not alone, though in my old campaign (which wasn't the most serious), the party was practically a zoo. By the end all of the following were NPCs who travelled with the party: * A floating intelligent holy symbol * The raven familiar of a dead alienist (fortunately I portrayed him as...

    Favorite Character...

So far, it'd most definitely have to have been Laskaw, my multicultural NG strongheart halfling bard. Unfortunately, the campaign was rather short-lived. If I didn't know any better, I'd mistake you for another guy I know. In my campaign he played an ooze genasi (custom race) wizard going...

    Familiars

Personally, I like to house rule that there's no XP penalty upon losing a familiar as long as it's not abused ("Hey Softy, check that trapped door for me"), and shorten the time to get a familiar back to about a week. That way the liability issue goes out the window. And to address the...

A PC by any other name...

Usually when trying to think up of names I go to a name website and look up words that thematically tie to the character. The most common name I ever came up with was "Chance" for my human happy-go-lucky Luck Cleric/Fighter/Auspician. The commonence of his name helps to really incapsulate his...

    Rogue Sneak Attacks

Another big thing about the rogue which was kind of alluded to is that they typically go down nice and easy. Since they have only d6 HD (typically) and light armor, a big hulking character (such as a giant) would be wise to first knockout the fleshbag that's stabbing him over and over in the neck.

    Design & Development: Dislikes

Jesse Decker is <3 The main thing about Polymorph to me is, that no matter how well it's worded, its power is actually dependent on the monster makers moreso than the spell designer (and 10x moreso for Shapechange). I like the "change into one of these forms" idea best, since it gives back the...

    Lightly-armored, greatsword-wielding human fighter

No offense, but I do think you're coming to this thread from the wrong direction. And from what you've said, I don't think you actually disagree with the main points being addressed. Your campaign doesn't sound like you need any "optimizing" -- though "optimizing" in this sense is just making...

So, what is your desktop wallparer? (new thread for an old subject)

I've recently been using the wallpaper for the cover of Sharn: City of Towers. Love that WAR artwork.

    Are you a threadkiller?

Occasionally. I just like to think that it's because my post is so insightful and decisive that there's absolutely nothing else to say on the issue :D

Who pays the XP for party created items in your games?

Generally I give them the option of having the crafter pay it entirely, or split it between the crafter and the person who wants the item, as long as that person works on it too.

Official Books vs Unofficial: Your group's standard is?

That's pretty much it for my group, though I have been trying to be more open to 3rd party products. Hyperconscious is pretty big with my group (though that's not too third-party, since it is the same guy who wrote the XPH), and I certainly wouldn't mind trying out Iron Heroes or Iron Kingdoms...

    Power Attack + Critical Hit

Yup, anything that is not extra dice (like from sneak attack or the flaming enhancement) is multiplied.

    Persistent Spell - Abuse?

Doesn't that spell only last until your next attack though? Though I agree, Persistent Spell is a rather crazy feat, and certainly should in particular probably not be used with swift spells.

Is the PSP I good system for games?

That describes me exactly. I got mine through one of those freesites though, so it's not like I'm out $250. Still, all I've been playing is various homebrew programs and Lumines, and even then I'd rather turn to Meteos for my puzzle-gaming action. I've been kinda curious about Liberty City...

Druid Animal Companions grow with HD?

Nope! This was addressed in the FAQ, and the Sage said that the advancement rules are meant to refer to be used for making unusually powerful creatures rather than those growing more powerful.
