The Escapist on D&D Past, Present, and Future

Thanks. But I am more interested in your thoughts about that: Though this might be worth a new thread.

The Escapist on D&D Past, Present, and Future

I would very much like to hear about that!

The Escapist on D&D Past, Present, and Future

Sounds plausible at first. But I can't see this happening any time soon. Again: because of video games. As long as games like Skyrim are coming out there will be people out there who will get hooked and start researching "roleplaying" online. It's a small step from there. Also: inappropriate...

The Escapist on D&D Past, Present, and Future

I think this is crucial! Baldur's Gate [1998] was my gateway drug. (Along with Planescape: Torment [1999] and Icewind Dale [2000]) And I firmly believe that without these three games the 3e wouldn't have been such a success. D&D needs a new video game series. Preferebly one that gets a 90%+...

    Monte Cook and 5e

You are not the first person I see complaining that Monte Cook doesn't appear to be familiar with 4e. I don't know whether this is true, but if it is, WotC apparently didn't think that this would be relevant. And that doesn't speak well for the 4e. Let's look at the situation as if WotC was a...

The Escapist on D&D Past, Present, and Future

I can't remeber writing something about you specifically. But be it as it may, nothing you said changes the fact that 4e was designed with specific goals in mind. And I have already quoted Andy Collins on what those goals are. Nothing more to say, really.

The Escapist on D&D Past, Present, and Future

WTF? Generalization? How much in denial can you be? Even Andy Collins, the head of development at WotC during the development of the 4e, admits that it has been designed with MMO-Players and their "attention span" in mind. Generalization or not, these are the facts. The Escapist : The State of...

Watching people ramble on about D&D on YouTube

Where did you get that from? Just because people are posting videos on YouTube doesn't mean they consider themselves experts on the subject. Everybody and his neighbour is doing it now. We are talking about gaming here. What would "credibility" mean in this context?

Watching people ramble on about D&D on YouTube

Surprisingly fun. This guy for example talks about D&D first edition to fourth edition. Early D&D was rubbish - YouTube Mid-period D&D wasn't great (part II of III) - YouTube Fourth Edition D&D is terrible (part III of III) - YouTube This one has LOADS of videos about D&D: (in this video he...

    D&D 4E Reply if you love 4e

4e is a good game. Sadly it is not D&D (IMHO, of course). Mod Note: Well, then, you don't really need to be in this thread, do you? ~Umbran

What will influence 5E during its development?

Hahahah Are you serious? Just another LOTR movie? As if that's something to sneer at in the fantasy genre! Well, let's see the domestic boxoffice numbers: - Fellowship of the Ring: $315,544,750 - The Two Towers: $342,551,365 - The Return of the King: $377,845,905 Each movie made more money...

    The availability of magic items

I consider starting a campaign in my own world/setting using the Pathfinder rules. But I am not at all clear on how to handle the availability of magic items. What do you consider to be the best method? -Should players just be able to buy most things they would need? (Forgotten-Realms-like)...

    Do YOU nod to "realism"?

Really? So if someone in your game needs to break down a door, why don't you check his Wisdom score? Checking for Strength would be too realistic, right? And if a dwarf with 3 Charisma and no social skills whatsoever wants to seduce the elven princess - more power to him! Who cares about...

    D&D 5E Art direction and 5th edition

I just posted the Player's Handbook Pictures because that's the first thing that came to my mind. But I agree: the FRCS3E was better. The design of the whole 3e Forgotten Realms Line was top notch (illustrations were hit and miss as always, but the "old tome" design of the pages was awesome -...

    D&D 5E Art direction and 5th edition

Is anyone really thinking a fantasy roleplaying game could have a better (more fitting) art design than THAT? http://132.209.40.23/w4/campagne/images/WotC_Art_Galleries/Players_Handbook/Chapter_1.jpg http://132.209.40.23/w4/campagne/images/WotC_Art_Galleries/Players_Handbook/Chapter_2.jpg...

    D&D 5E Art direction and 5th edition

I do advocate the return of the "ancient tomes" design. It was just the most fitting style that could be chosen. And I would argue it still is.

What makes Dungeons & Dragons "Dungeons & Dragons?"

starting as a peasant and becoming a demi-god eventually (one of the reasons 4th Edition is not for me - you start as a hero and you become a super-hero; much less of a progress)
