Help with 17th century Europe adventure plots!

pickin_grinnin Awesome. I think I have good idea of what I want to introduce in the game and what not. I also wanted to introduce a new minor mechanic to the game. A system of belief and skepticism. The idea is that if you are a believer (of any sort) you can more easily fall under the...

Help with 17th century Europe adventure plots!

Yeah, good suggestion. Thanks pickin_grinnin. And when it comes to pushing the limits of nature and science, would you guys do it? And how far would you go? I ask for I'm tempted to create potions and drugs that probably don't exist but could, or mechanical contraptions that would be very hard...

Help with 17th century Europe adventure plots!

Celebrim Thanks for the advice. The players are aware of what you mentioned as a possible problem and we are a group that use rpgs for the roleplay and the mystery, so I hope that won't be too much of an issue. Also I failed to mention that the campaign won't be made of these unusual event. I...

Help with 17th century Europe adventure plots!

Hey guys. Soon I will be running a campaign set in 17th century Europe. The campaign will have a horror/paranormal feel but it won't break our natural laws, maybe only exaggerate them. What I mostly need help with is creating the weird horror within natural laws, but still make it almost...

    Flint&Steel RPG Starter Edition

After a lot of hard work, my friends and I have prepared a starter for our game Flint&Steel. Our rules are based on 3.5 d20 system, but almost every part of the game got modified. In the starter edition of our game we wanted to present our ideas and mechanics for combat, health, our new magic...

Sexism in Table-Top Gaming: My Thoughts On It, and What We Can Do About It

We never had those problems or occurrences at our table. Half of our group are girls and never anyone tried to rape them in-game. That is just wrong. There is a ton of different ways to hurt someone's character, a GM doesn't have to go with rape. I must admit I have taken advantage of a drunk...

    9 Character Stereotypes

Looking at my own players it would go something like this. Useless Bard - She played a variation of this character numerous times. He usually gets everyone into the trouble. While useless with spells and combat, her characters always make a night fun for all of us. The Merc - Different player...

sociology question - how long to instil an idea in a culture?

I think it's doable. Another factor is, how keen is this religion on spreading their word? Do they want to dominate the whole kingdom? If they do have such an ambition and desire, they can surly find a way. The new skills you mentioned is a good start but lets say that they also help in baby...

Different mannerism and morality in your campaign worlds

Our group uses a romanticized version of middle ages, something close to a Song of Ice and Fire. Then again, I have several different countries and races than do have different mannerisms and customs, outside of the norm. The way burials are made, who rules the country, laws, slavery and so...

What are we forgetting to remember?

Sad gamer is sad... I understand what you are saying. I have several folders of character sheets and sketches. Every year, I go through them with my girlfriend (another gamer) and we decide what is a keeper and what isn't. Couple of years ago a friend of mine was selling his rpg books, because...

    4 GM Tips

Time Lapse Here is little tip from me. What to do when the great campaign is over? The characters are high level with awesome gear and the world threatening villain is dead. The players are still engaged and want to play same characters. One of the ways sure is to just keep on playing, but it...

how many classes is too many?

You are right. Both balance and freedom should be pushed to certain extent otherwise you do get an un-enjoyable game. I think didn't get the second part. I don't think games are equal. Every game has it's own players, it's about taste and what works for you.

how many classes is too many?

You do have a point here. Fun should be the top priority but then again everyone of us has fun in a different way. I was often annoyed with lack of balance and freedom, and that directly reduced the fun.

how many classes is too many?

Well our style of play is obviously very different. Most of my players aren't power gamers, I'll give you that, but two of them are. They are always trying to create even more powerful characters. Whenever they step out of the line I simply show them that every action has a consequence. If...

how many classes is too many?

I never said the GM is thwarting or not allowing the action. I tried to show you that every action has consequences. A lot of cops is a threat for any character. It not cheating or railroading. As for a Wolverine, I never played that game. I tend to run more "realistic" games.

how many classes is too many?

Janx school bully picking on you? smash his head in with an engine block - He comes back and beats you to death. need some fast cash to pay a bill? cut open an ATM and take some money - Cops come and get you. need to get the bad guy to tell you how to disable the bomb? break his arms and legs...

how many classes is too many?

With a great chance of sounding like a pretentious douche, my friends and I are currently making such a game. Starter pack of our game will be available soon. Not really, traps, puzzles, imprisonment and so forth all threaten your character and yet you are not in a position to "bash the nail"...

how many classes is too many?

Well in all honesty, that is the problem of a player and GM, not of a game. If a game is written in such a way that character depth should be explored and yet GM only encourages tactics and combat, it's only natural that players will only build combat characters. The game I'm working on (class...

how many classes is too many?

This can be easily solved. Simply make things in the same price equally useful. This way players just might pick what makes most sense for their character and not what gives the best bonuses. This is also easily solved by making a narrow specialization only useful in a single field so it can't...
