    The WildSea

Got "The Wildsea", by Felix Isaacs for my birthday. I'm pretty excited about trying it out. It has a strong dose of Firefly but in a radically different setting. It's a gorgeous book. Anyone have experience with this game?

Level Up (A5E) My Zeitgeist supernatural investigators game

I'm playing in the Zeitgeist campaign world. There are just two of us playing. I have Rachael, an urbanist warlock with the noble background. The other player has Ariel, a death cleric with the urchin background. They are both investigators, solving mysteries in Flint. We are having so much fun...

    Rip Nichelle Nichols

I had the honour of meeting one of my few celebrity heroes a few years ago. Nichelle Nichols came to a small convention in Prince George, BC. It's a lovely memory. She exuded kindness, grace and warmth. Thank you Nichelle, for all your contributions and being an inspiration to so many. May you...

    Severance

We subscribed to Apple TV in order to get Prehistoric Planet and came across Severance. I'd heard of it but didn't know much. It's an excellent series with tight writing, engaging characters and a mix of thriller, personal horror, social commentary and a dash of humour. It makes me think and...

    Prehistoric Planet

Just finished this amazing mini series. Wow! Looks so real. I loved the raptors hunting pterosaurs on the cliffs and the triceratops going into the caves. I'm planning on watching it all again soon.

    The Story Now Discussion

It has been suggested that a Story Now discussion could be helpful, so I'm starting one. As a curious neophyte, this could be helpful. This is not a thread to argue over Story Now vs. other styles. We've had plenty of those fights.🙄 This is for discussion, questions, clarifications, etc. So my...

    Montages in RPGs

I first encountered montages in 13th Age, although, the idea was floating around games before then. A montage is a technique which can be used when the characters are travelling or in a section of a dungeon. The GM asks a player to describe a challenge, such as a raging river, a troll demanding...

From 7 Action Types To Pathfinder 2's New 3 Action Economy

The second attack is at minus five. The 3 action economy cleans things up but may cause some other problems, like players constantly asking if something is an action or not. Think I'd have to give it a whirl before deciding if it's a worthwhile change.

    Which rpg got you hooked?

Which rpg got you addicted to the hobby? Doesn't necessarily need to be the first one you played. DnD was my first experience....and I didn't like it at all. But then I played the first edition of Warhammer. GM was running "The Enemy Within", and that was it, gamer for life. Warhammer is the...

    D&D 5E Traits

With traits, bonds and flaws, do you pick from list, roll, come up with your own or do a mix? I try to create my own as much as possible. The lists can be helpful, but I find it far more satisfactory to create ones especially geared to my character.

D&D 5E Exp. points in Curse of Strahd

I was just curious as to whether "Curse of Strahd" uses experience points or milestones. I like the fact that the players are not going to fly up as fast. It's been crazy lately in both 5e and Pathfinder modules. Can't even catch your breath and you have hit another level. I'm rambling a bit...

    Pre-gens

Was recently looking over JonathanTweet's Everway game. There are a fair number of pre-gens included in the box, but while reading over the rules, he states that the pre-gens are for more experienced players. Beginning players should make their own characters. I was surprised, because most...

    What's your style?

With so many rpgs out there now, it's hard to find time to try all the ones I want. The hobby covers a large spectrum from the retro-clones to story-telling games like Universalis. I dabble across the whole spectrum. FATE is one of my favourites, but I also enjoy Firefly, 13th Age and have One...
