    D&D 5E Recommended Character Sheets?

Our campaign is due to restart following a hiatus, and I checked for updates to MPMB's character sheets only to find they've been nerfed by WotC's legal department (A murrain on lawyers! A murrain, sez I!) The official sheets really only work for characters up to about Level 10, after which...

D&D 5E Sudden changes to the party dynamic

The Player's Handbook has a sidebar about evil characters causing problems in parties that don't share their goals. Nobody likes having to look over their shoulder because their allies can't be trusted. For those who missed my earlier clarification, the player in question isn't really...

D&D 5E A few questions regarding sun blades

Sorry, my bad. Should have said IMHO.

D&D 5E Sudden changes to the party dynamic

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm going to see how things pan out over the next few sessions. I still think the main problem will be keeping our cleric alive unless I start "mixing it" (which isn't my character's forte), as I doubt the gunslinger chose close-quarters shooter as a fighting style...

D&D 5E A few questions regarding sun blades

Great! All those answers are what I'd expected. Thanks for the quick response!

D&D 5E A few questions regarding sun blades

Q1. The DMG states that sun blades are longswords, so do they have the versatile property in addition to the finesse property? I think they might, as both the historical katana and fictional lightsaber would doubtless be classed as finesse weapons, but are generally used two-handed. Q2. If the...

D&D 5E Sudden changes to the party dynamic

The DM has said that if he rolls a 1 he then has to roll a d6, with a 1, 2, or 3 still resulting in a misfire. Also, he's applying the heavy weapon rule to the "bad news" rifle, something Matt Mercer should've done to begin with.

S'mon/BoldItalic: Sound advice. I'll bear that in mind - thank you.

D&D 5E Sudden changes to the party dynamic

Just FYI: The player in question tends to treat her characters as walking stat blocks (not just my opinion, players from other campaigns confirm this), and only really seem interested in hurting people. On more than one occasion we've had to restrain her from beating up random NPCs for...

D&D 5E Sudden changes to the party dynamic

I've been with our D&D group from the start, running a half-elf ranger (with 1 level in rogue since our full-time rogue bailed on us). Our other members were a half-elf (draconic) sorceress, a human cleric and a dwarf fighter. We're now at level 12, and things have taken a disturbing turn. We...

D&D 5E Questions regarding fighting styles and Sharpshooter feat

Thanks for clearing that up for me. It's the difference between "ranged weapon attack" and "ranged-weapon attack" that's crucial. Our dwarf fighter is going to be so happy. She loves her throwing axes!;)

Question regarding D&D 5th Ed. Feats

    OK, thanks for the confirmation.

D&D 5E Questions regarding fighting styles and Sharpshooter feat

Sage Advice states that the Archery fighting style applies only to ranged weapons, rather than thrown melee weapons. This means that the Sharpshooter feat also applies only to ranged weapons, right? The Close-Quarter Shooter fighting style featured in Unearthed Arcana, however, specifies ranged...

Question regarding D&D 5th Ed. Feats

I was chatting to a player from another D&D campaign yesterday, and he seems to be working on the assumption that the +5 Initiative bonus from the Alert feat stacks with his Dexterity bonus. I've always assumed that the feat bonus replaced the Dexterity bonus, since +5 is the maximum bonus...

When a man plays a woman

Oddly enough, I nearly always play female characters. I think it goes back to my time with a Sega Mega-Drive - the female characters were more about speed, agility and stealth rather than brute strength (e.g. Blaze in Streets of Rage, and Shadow in Eternal Champions), which suited my playing...

    D&D General Welcome Thread

Hi guys, I first played D&D in my teens. I'm nearly 52 now, so I really put the "old" in "old hand"! Really enjoying 5th Ed., currently running a half-elf 8th level ranger/1st level rogue based on my character from a "Descent: Journeys in the Dark" campaign. SO glad to see the revised ranger...
