Arcane Trickster.. Start Out with a Fighter level???

I am making a High Elf Arcane Trickster to play in Season 4 Adventurer's League. On the surface, it seems like a good idea to start out as a Fighter 1 to pick up armor/weapon proficiencies, a little extra hp, dueling, and second wind, and then put levels into rogue thereafter. Here are basic...

What 4e Products are worth getting for a Non-4e Gamers

Every 4E product (at least the ones put out by WotC) that I have read or used has been 90% or more crunch. If you are looking for flavor/fluff, I can't say that WotC has anything to offer. The only WotC products worth buying (just my opinion of course) are the minis, which you have to buy in the...

    Dungeon Delves question

I've never used that book, but that sounds perfect to me. You want to challenge them don't you? Also, since they are delves with just 3 encounters or whatever, I think they are purposely tuned to be a bit harder than what you would find in a full-length module.

    Computers, Projectors, and Battle Maps.

These maps are the best I've ever seen. I wish there were more like them: Temple of Demogorgon – The Maps | Zitting Cisticola

    Patronage Programs and Retro Clones

I don't really see that working. I think the patronage model works well for adventures, setting material, etc. but I think it would be a double-disaster trying to do a rules system under that model. Rules systems are better done under the dictatorship model, maybe 2 or 3 designers at the helm tops.

    God, I *LOVE* BECMI!

All else being equal, I prefer the typeface of Moldvay/Cook/Marsh :)

"Edited" by Moldvay. "Edited" by Cook. But who WROTE it?

Yes, they are considered edited versions, or restatements of OD&D by Gygax/Arneson. While you can hold Holmes and OD&D side-by-side and see that they are very similar, by the time you get to Moldvay, the similarities are few and far between, with the exception of saving throw charts and the...

New Gaming Blog - People them with Monsters

I just posted my first play report, with the goal being to craft a play report that would be enjoyable to read to gamers that aren't in the game. It's a tall order, but I tried. If you have a moment to take a look and drop a critique, that would be awesome. People them with Monsters: Play...

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I am here to inform you of my new blog called People them with Monsters. I think it will have appeal to a lot of the people who might be regular visitors to this site. It will feature a lot of different things (all gaming-related), but one of the most...

D&D 3E/3.5 looking for a 3.5 dungeon module, free and prinable

This guy posts excellent dungeons on his blog: A character for every game (check the downloads section) They are generally stocked for labyrinth lord, but you could easily just use stat blocks from the 3.5 monster manual or completely restock as you see fit. If you are anything like me, that...

    Defending weapon question

As a DM, I would not allow the masterwork to-hit bonus to be applied. If you want +1 to hit, then you will have to only take +2 to your AC. Just because you are transferring the weapon's enhancement bonus to your AC, that does not cause the weapon to become non-magical, so you do not get the...

    Allow Cannibalism vs. Heavy-handed GMing

I think this is ultimately the right and proper approach. It has just been difficult to swallow, since it goes against everything I believe about RPGs and allowing freedom of choice. However with freedom/power comes responsibility, and I just don't think they're ready for that yet. Someday...

    Allow Cannibalism vs. Heavy-handed GMing

great recommendation! it's much more immediate than allowing them to decimate their own group and then try to finish the dungeon and likely fail.

    Allow Cannibalism vs. Heavy-handed GMing

Thanks guys, lots of good input. I guess the thing I struggle with the most in all of this is being faced with a situation where I feel like I should be saying "No, you can't cast sleep on your brother's character and take all his stuff". Playing with other adults, I would never be faced with...

    Allow Cannibalism vs. Heavy-handed GMing

First, just to be clear, I am not talking about literal cannibalism... Here is the scenario, I am GMing an introductory game for my younger cousins (13 year-old boy, 11 year-old girl, 9 year-old boy) They are brothers and sister, so they tend to struggle with the cooperative aspect of the game...

Start a campaign with a virtual table now, or wait?

If you had waited for Wizards' VTT the first time they announced it (2007/2008?), you'd still be waiting for it. If you are afraid of investing a lot of time into learning one of the more complex ones, such as MapTool, only to abandon it later, then just go with GameTable or something like that...
