Pathfinder 1E PATHFINDER: A First Look

I'd be shocked if you didn't, mister "I created Turgalus!" :p ;)

"Turaglas." If you're going to name-drop, do it right. ;)

And I'll happily admit, up front and in public, that while the fanboy in me is drooling over this, one of my major reasons for subscribing is so I can become familiar enough with the line to try to become part of one of the later Adventure Paths. Never managed it with Dungeon, but damn if I'm not going to try again.

Ari,

You should know by now, if I can't spell Slacerian right, don't expect too much from me about other creations. ;)

But yes, Turaglas, the cool one. ;)

I look forward to you doing something for their AP in the future Ari.

I do hope you celebrate your WotC independence with some boobies in the illustrations here and there - and adult situations that would have been rejected outright in the past.

It's kinda like breaking up with the wife and hitting the bars for a one night stand or three. You don't do it because it's necessarily wise; you do it because it's fun and because now you can :)

Well, they do still have to abide by the decency clauses in the SRD... ;)

*sighs* Forgot about "decency" clause. :p

Still I want to see Ari cut loose as best he can. Especially with the Ebon Maw.

Oh! Oh, you meant in terms of violence, bloodshed, Lovecraftian horror, that sort of thing! Whew!

Uh, I mean, I knew that.

:uhoh:

My only worry is that the Pathfinder subscription model may be a lot less stable than the Dungeon subscription model. I can see a lot of people getting 6 issues of Pathfinder and then dropping the subscription for 6 months, either because the next AP doesn't interest them, or because they can only get through 1 AP a year.

We're going to make it so awesome that no one would dream of stopping their subscription. :)

More seriously, it's a challenge built into the nature of the thing. We're going to bank on people being interested in our world and in the quality of our encounter design and writing. Certain ongoing features in the "non-adventure" part of the series will no doubt keep some people interested, but it's an editorial challenge we'll continue to work on right up to the day #6 goes to the printer.

The other question I have is now where will we go for short, quirky, independent lower-level adventures that Dungeon used to provide every month? I know that Paizo is going to be putting out 32-page adventures on a monthy basis with their Game Mastery line but I'm not sure if they will fill the same niche.

Earlier today, while pondering this issue, I came up with the idea of a fairly sizable annual collection of, say, 30 or so of this type of adventure, written 100% by "new" authors who query and submit the modules to us. In this case I mean "new" authors who have not yet been assigned a Pathfinder adventure or GameMastery Module. This would be a stand-alone softcover book, most likely. Let's say 150-200 pages long. Anyone think that would be fun?

With all due respect, I really hope to not see "boobies" or adult situations in the illustrations. As a mom to four small girls, I work on my DMing at home and frequently have the magazines out and about. I already take pains to avoid the girls seeing some of the more violently disposed covers of Dungeon. Some of you dads are probably in this boat, too. If there were illos with naked or half-naked chicks within the page count, I would certainly not be a happy camper. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for being naked at home in private but nearly all of the D&D art depicting women is unrealistic enough as to foster what I feel to be incorrect impressions of what a healthy woman's body most often looks like. There are already plenty of images out there that are counter to raising a well-informed child. Cosmo, I'm lookin' at you...

Don't mean to spoil someone else's idea of what would be cool (sorry Steel_Wind) but I did want to point out an alternate perspective on the matter. At least you didn't say boobaloobies or golden bozos. Two of my husband's favorite words. :)

Maybe. To be honest Erik - I bought into the AP stuff so deeply, I uhm...

I kind of...well...been pretty much ignoring the rest of Dungeon since AoW started. :p I kept up with reading STAP after that began too.

But when you are really involved in the AP format - the one offs just fall under the radar for the most part.

That may be unfair to a lot of the time Paizo spent on the one offs and to the time the authors spent on writing them.

But that does not make it any less true for me on a personal basis. So I'm kind of equivocal on buying a book of one-offs.
