Conversion: Fantasy Rules into Star Frontiers

Say ... have their been conversions into the Star Frontiers rules of the old module Expedition to the Barrier Peaks?

THAT would be cool!

Could even convert the vegypygmy as the plant race!
I am not aware of any sort of mod or inclusion of Expedition to the Barrier Peaks with Star Frontiers, but when I finish this project (Fantasy Version Star Frontiers), then it seems like this would make a great idea to bridge the two settings if desired... allowing the Fantasy types to gain access to Star Frontiers 'modern' equipment and even launch the ship or start a transmitter that brings the 'modern' campaign to the setting.

I have not looked at the Vegepygmies but SF certainly needs a plant based life-form, and this one could probably be used as a player-race quite easily.

Every time I see your name and avatar, I am reminded that a Fungal Lifeform ought to be included as well. You should write up a race description for the inclusion into the Star Frontiersman webmag, like I did with the Vimh (rat race). I have had little time for developing ideas lately, so I think you should give it a go.

I was thinking that it might be interesting in the reverse sense as well. EttBP had all kinds of neat and strangely shaped goodies, not to mention beasties!

Or ... perhaps even as an npc-foe based race, like the Sathar? :)

Ahgh! I am SUCH a bad rules-fu individual! :(

Plant life form... someone should make one, and here are some ideas off the cuff...

1. Plants would move slowly. If basically humanoid, they might be normal human-speed (m/turn), but their long-distance moving ("kph") rate might be somewhat less.
2. Attribute modifiers could be literally anything to stylize the race as desired. A willow-tree-like race might be strong, certain plantlife might be flexible, etc.
3. No need for traditional food or sleep, but may need to root self in soil now and then. Doesn't drink conventionally... perhaps has to submerse appendages in water and draw it into itself!
4. Requires sunlight regularly or attributes suffer? (maybe a -5 per day of no sunlight access, accumulated until reach -25, nullified by spending at least three hours in direct sun). Unless fungal :-P
5. Regeneration? I don't think any other race has this ability. Perhaps dependent on proximity to sunlight.
6. Bark-covered aliens would have natural armor. Maybe treat as having a 50-point skeinsuit on at all times that regenerates at a rate of 2 points per day.

If someone wants to make it, I'll try to get one of the webzine illustrators to draw a unique pic of it!!

I will try to put together some ideas for Plant and a Fungal life-form. No promises yet.

Any word on when the office Star Frontiersman Forums will be up? Waiting patiently....

I've run into a few snafus... my original goal was to make this wonderful development site where everyone can work on any project with variable levels of collaboration and such... but creating such a thing has turned out to be far more complicated than I had hoped. I turned my attention towards making a website for a midget football league my son is on (and that I'm a boardmember with). That kept me from working more on the SF site. I'm beginning to think of just throwing up a forum on my site for a temporary home for the StarFrontiersman until this uber-nifty site is done.

I'll want your opinion on things, mr. Smoot :-) I'll get my act together soon. SFman #6 is in the works right now and will take my focus...

Interesting discussion on converting SF to a Fantasy system.

The one issue I had with SF was the armor system. I noticed by reading this thread that armor will stop a percentage of points. Did you consider a random armor protection roll (ala Stormbringer)?

For example, let's say a sword does 3d10 then you could have chain stop 3d10 points of damage. Thoughts?

For magic, rather than having spell points what about a Spell roll. If you make it, the spell fires; if you fail, then you suffer fallout (maybe take xd10 in damage).

Keep up the brilliant work!

Thanks!

Eric
