I another thread someone made a claim and I'm using that as the inspiration for this question. You are not being forced to, the campaign will be long and even if you guy dies any new character will be 25 point buy, and all characterswill be treated the same. So, would you play a 25 point buy character in a game of 36 point buy characters?

Ah, again you are confusing a preset array of stats and the point buy system. For reference I stated that these arrays could be played alongside each other:

16,15,14,13,12,11

16,14,14,10,9,8

Obviously there is a power gap, we're talkin 11 points on the infallibe point buy scale! However, I can think of reasons to make a character with the weaker array (challenge, underdog, concept) alongside more powerful heroes.

Edited: In fact, I stated that you could use 25-pt buy to make character (vice a preset array which happens to equal 25 points on the point-buy scale), so you would be able to customize and not be confined to 16,14,14,10,9,8 (although that's not a terrible way to go).

Not only would I play 11 points short, I'd make it a point of honor to outperform the higher point PC's.
Smart tactics and intelligent roleplay beats raw power hands down every time.

What?!?! Yet another permutation? Hurry up and get a fourth thread started on the matter before too much discussion can transpire!

What is the least amount of Point Buy you'd play with?

Array Comparisons based on Point Buy

I believe it is your serve, Technik4... :p

Arrays don't show the whole story though; it's about the point buy. Not everyone liked these particular ones so let the players have the choice to make thier own. THat's what I'm doing

Sure there are reasons to do so, but let the people speak and see if they would.

What makes you think the other players can't use the same tactics and intelligent role play???

To be fair, Crothian started 3 of the 4. ;)

And, boy I need something better to do on a friday night :(

I'd play a peasant and be so annoyingly peasantish, funny, but annoying, like in Holy Grail.

I'd be cowtowing, yanking my forelock and allowing the lords the luxury of going into the room first. etc. It would be fun. They would demand I get 36 points the next time I did a character.

Crothian:

There is a difference (vast, imo) between telling someone to make a character using 36 point buy and making a character using 16,15,14,13,12,11. Just because those numbers add up to that many points does not mean they are always equal - the point buyer can adjust his scores to his liking, the arrayer is stuck and can only arrange.
