A thief is too narrow of concept for one the main 4... they need to be archetypal and cover many characters.

Honestly I have less of a problem thinking of the Thief as someone with the skills of a thief, if not necessarily someone who thieves, than I do thinking of the Rogue as someone who is skilled at misdirection and deception without necessarily being playful about it.

Right.. no thief is a bad-guy from the get go you have to work backwards in to accepting hes on the side of the angels.
And thief pretty much excludes the duelist nobleman, (zorro, scarlet pimpernelle, etc) but not vice versi.

Technically the Archetype is the Trickster.

But from what I read in next he is the Expert.... ie we are both quite wrong.
