It is early morning. The cold mountain air is giving you a brisk start to your day. The sun is just appearing over the mountain peaks.

What brought you here? Kavalar Coppernight, a dwarf prospector, led a couple of dozen volunteers in a quest for rich veins of ore. Several months ago, they began underground mining operations, as well as a surface excavation for a small keep. Hearing of this development, the mayor of the nearest town sent two veteran militia members to investigate. They should have returned two days
ago, and the mayor is growing anxious.

Atop a low rise is an excavation site, partially protected by a high wooden fence. Rubble lies strewn about the area. You can hear the movement of small creatures
beyond the fence.

The north and west sides of the site are blocked by impassable piles of rubble. The rubble thins out enough near the fence you can clamber over it. (DC 10 Athletics to enter a square)

"Come on lets get too it." says Maavnod as he heads towards the fence. He'll hop over it with a simple swing that makes it look entirely too easy. The large goliath with patches of red stone on his skin adjusts the large pick on his shoulder a bit after landing. He'll peer down the stairs to see if he can spot anything yet.

"Aye, after you oh strong and brave, lest we fall victim to our eventual grave" Fenwick sings softly to himself, fingering his wand as he waits to see if anything arises in response to the goliaths appearance.

If not, he'll follow Maavnod over the fence, struggling a bit to clear the fence, landing somewhat awkwardly on the other side. He smiles sheepishly before standing up, dusting himself off, and flashy a quick smile.

Kali moves to flank the two heroes, making an awkward attempt to climb the fence. Proper ladies have both modesty and combat composure. Remember that boys.
In order to maintain her dignity Kali summons an illusory hand, which attempts to hold her skirt in such a manner, as to not flash her fellow adventurers...

Mathas walks quickly, climbing atop the rubble easily. The deva whispers a prayer to the sprits of the earth and he stands tall waiting for the moment

If Mathas does not see anybody from his position, passive perception 19 or if minor action is needed Perception +9. He will listen specifically for language(hoping to identify the race of the speakers), he speaks: common, goblin, and draconic. If hostiles are sighted, he will conjure his spirit companion in a square next to one(or more if possible)[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Just wanted to let our avenger and warden know of a combo if they didn't already: While flanking the target of the avengers oath, that the warden also has marked, the avenger attacks with overwhelming strike, sliding away from the warden, and then shifting away with a move aciton. AXEXW, where X is open squares. Now the enemy must choose to close with the avenger(taking the penalty for the mark), and then get slid back with warden's grasp or attacking the warden, and setting up the avenger's bonus damage.[/sblock]

Warrick sighed, knowing this wasn't his purpose in life, but merely the first step in a very long walk. The young elf moved over to the rubble and stood there a moment, trying to find a section that was easier to climb. Failing to find a good purchase on the rocks, Warrick listened and looked around, trying to identify the noises.

As you clamber over and approach the fence, you hear high-pitched reptilian voices yelling. You can see a large number of kobold taking defensive position. There is a excavation, with a large deep hole in the middle of the pit.

'Ah,' Warrick mentally thought as he sighed audibly, 'Someone to vent upon . . . those who have likely harmed the dwarves.' The avenger's observations paid off, and he managed to find a foothold on the rubble, moving into it.

Glancing down at the creature just below him, Warrick calmed intoned, "You! You are the reason we have been sent here, leave this life so that we may be done here." With a two handed swing of his greatsword, Warrick carried out justice.

Mathas, atop the rubble sees the reptilians in their operation. Surely this is why the others weren't heard from. The deva calls out to the spirits of the land around him and an translucent ebony panther spirit comes to his aid. It lashes out with it's claws at the nearest kobold. It catches the kobold across the face, and the creature falls motionless to the ground.
