D&D 5E [5e] Easy Sneak Attack Question

Since you normally can only make one OA per round anyway, your surplus wording "any one successful opportunity attack" is almost superfluous. (You only get one reaction per round, and it resets at the end of your turn.)

He has a houseruled feat that grants additional OA's. He said it in the second paragraph.

It's only insane if your DM, as alluded to in my original question, allows a rogue to sneak attack once per turn and not once per round. Otherwise the ability is pretty crappy. One 10d6 or whatever sneak attack and then a bonus turn of... a normal weapon attack. Yay?

so... not insane at all, then, eh?

Meaning a DM would naturally be weary of okaying something "insane"... but this is only "insane" in a good way. :)

At level 17 getting an extra turn, with an extra sneak attack, is perfectly normal, and not something DMs should be wary of at all. Especially since the alternative would indeed drag this cool ability far into meh land.
