D&D 5E 5e Halcyon Academy

Quentin plays host to his elven companion, his knowledge about the ship probably uninteresting to her, but he points out the beauty of the sky, sea, dolphins and even new companions. He avoids talking about the academy, but mentions in passing that no one can pass the academy without at least some support. If for nothing else than sympatetic ear for the woes caused by teachers and students alike. He tries to get her "into the fold" - to meet others at the very least.

Among other talks:
"Take this as a challenge, my lady. Nobles have the ability to lead, but it serves no purpose if we don't use it. These people are all somehow deemed worthy by their elders, be them warriors, merchants or budding mages. And all could use a guiding hand. Not passing orders from untouchable heights, but showing them what they could be, what to aspire to."

If Merrilon Stardreamer, heir to the House is convinced to join the companions he introduces her and himself and asks Zivar for accepting him as roommate. He lets others speak to get sense of each, talking animatedly when it is his turn, offering the information freely.

If she doesn't, he excuses himself and approaches the group, introduces himself and asks Zivar the same. After several minutes of introductions he returns to the elf until she retires.

He notices Korlins absence, finding it strange since he didn't return with anything and all females were accounted for, at least among the future students. Assuming he was warned by a sailor or rebuffed somehow, he doesn't ask anything. Still, the man will be watched from now on, just in case.

Quentin is very careful not to flirt except in most veiled and refined way he can manage. He flatters her the same way, she is noble and should understand innuendo. He knows (from his admittedly less then objective sea elves) land-elves are sensitive, especially high-born ones, but having such contact for the future is too valuable to ruin by careless comment. This is quite an effort of will on his part since his normal women companions aren't...how do we put it...on the same heights as this princess. Spending more times on the ship than on nobles fine events, he is somewhat rusty in this department, but elf behaviour helps to focus him. His time among sea elves is invaluable although the customs are much different - but he can talk about some of elven history and different mores even with the one convinced of her own superiority.

OOC: is Merrilon equally dismissive of sea elves as she is of non-elf riff-raff? Or is it just noble vs commoner bias? She is talking to Quentin after all - and he is pulling ever so gently toward socializing with others.

OOC: hopefully, the elf can at least talk to us :) without "leading" by ordering everyone around

Seeing the mess hall is full Mim heads off back to the bunks and proceeds to check the empty rooms for some coins.... or anything else.
OOC: I believe I made every roll possible in the ooc thread if you want to use those

The Ship
Late Fall/Afternoon

Asherah smiles at Korlin and follows him up to join Zivar. She tries some of the wine, and it is very good, and settles her stomach a bit, but not completely. She looks at Korlin with concern when he leaves for a moment and comes back looking a bit upset, but he didn’t seem to want to discuss it.

Quentin joined them, and introduced himself to Zivar, with whom he would be sharing a cabin. Asherah’s tail twitched nervously, and as food was brought around lunch time, she got up and darted for the rail. Her tail went ramrod straight as she lost what little wine she had drunk over the side.

"Of course Quentin, the bunk it seems was empty and waiting for one as interesting as you! This is very exciting isn't it?"

Zivar shows interest in Korlin's answer when he is asked about his absence, nodding understandingly and respecting his privacy.

Sipping his wine carefully he still manages to slosh a little out onto his face as the ship rocks slightly. "HAHA, oops."

When Asherah bolts for the side of the ship Zivar looks down uneasily at his own glass before looking back to her "Are, are you ok?"

Jordy slips into the mess hall, and finds a seat at the foot of a table. He fills his plate with meat and bread and cheese.
While he eats, whenever he thinks no one is watching, he slips some of the food into his pocket.

Merrilon winds up accompanying Quenting, though it is obvious the only reason she is doing so is because she is bored. She refuses to acknowledge Dariana when introduced, barely glancing at the others and simply looking out over the ocean as they talk.

Korlin is cordeal with Quenting, though he spends most of his time near Asherah, including trying to help her with her sea sickness.

[sblock=Mim]Mim enters one of the empty rooms, and finds little of use. Some fancy dresses, make up, and the like. However, there is a small box under the pillow. inside was a coin, which looked much like the coin the Goliath showed him. [/sblock]

OOC: I did a luck roll for Mim, and it got a 19, but it looks like it was deleted some how.

Happy with his coin Mim runs around the ship playing pranks. Mimicking the captains voice giving orders to sailors, cutting ropes on bunkers before finally turning in for the night sleeping with his coin guarded by Barnabus.

OOC: Ok, welcome to consequences for your actions!

For the majority of the group, the next day goes quickly. The food is edible. The beds aren't entirely uncomfortable. Korlin spends much of his time tuning and playing his lute while getting to know the others. He seems to be frustrated, trying to use the music to calm himself. He's cordial, and charming, but he definitely has something on his mind. When asked, he simply says he lost something.

Merrilon goes off on Quenting the next morning, accusing him of going through her room. She refuses to talk to him from that point forward, threatening to call the ship's crew on him if he tries to talk to her.

And then there's Mim. See, Mim was caught. The next morning, some of the crew came to his room, and threw him in the ship's brig. They didn't bother to search him, or his room, and told him they'd let him go when they got to the Academy, but if he somehow gets out of the brig, they're just going to toss him overboard and be done with it. Seems they didn't take to the pranks (and he didn't roll well enough on stealth and Sleight of Hand).

OOC: And for the sake of time, and because I want to get on with the game, the next day goes by fairly quickly.

On the second morning, as the sun is just peaking over the water, a horn goes out. It is a clear, crisp sound that sends shivers of anticipation through the entire ship. To those who go to the deck, it would seem that the ship has crossed into a world of fantasy and magic.

The water is so clear, so smooth that everything on the surface is doubled, reflected in the water. There are a number of islands within sight, wth terrains so varried it should be impossible for them to exist so near each other. One seems to be as tall as a mountain, with snow and blizards roaming along the mountain side up the snowy peaks. Another is a sandy beach meeting a tropical forest. Still another is nearly constantly enveloped in steam, as rivers of molten lava flow into the sea at a constant rate.

And ahead is the most amazing sight of all. A forested island, in the center of which is a towering castle, complete with spires reaching up to the sky, glistening in the morning sun. The castle is impossibly large, easily spanning an area larger than Port Llast would ever hope to be, and that didn't include the town that surrounded the castle. Each spire was larger than Port Llast's Tower was, and the central spire dwarfed the others, seeming to stretch halfway to the stars.

"Welcome to the Academy," came the captain's voice, again magically projected throughout the entire ship. His tone says he's said this so many times, he could puke, and he's not afraid to show it. "Your future is on the horizon. Whatever it's worth. We'll be docking in half an hour. Have your stuff and be ready to get off my ship lest I throw you off without it."

There is general commotion as the passengers start rummaging through their rooms, collecting anything they brought. Merrilon can be heard in her room cursing as she overturns her mattress. The soldiers let Mim out of the brig to collect his things, though they follow him to make sure he doesn't do anything else.

The boat docks, and a ramp is extended. On the dock, one old Dwarf stands there, leaning on a cane. His beard is so white it may not have been any other color for the last few centuries. He doesn't say anything as the ramp is lowered. He doesn't move. His eyebrows are so bushy his eyes disappear within them, so it is impossible to tell who or what he is looking at. He just stands there as if waiting.

"One at a time, walk down the ramp, and hand your coin to Professor Borenger," came the captain's voice once more. "Now get off my :):):):)ing boat."

OOC: Feel free to role play whatever you want in there. The order you get off the boat is the order in which you post.

Dariana sees the academy for the first time and her heart races. This is beyond her imaginings. She grabs her things and rushes to the ramp trying to be among the first. She manages to make a little fool of herself trying to dart over and around and winds up nearly falling off the boat! Luckily she grabs the rail and climbs back in, none the worse for wear. She is among the first to arrive on the shore.

She pushes her way forward and gives her coin to the old dwarf.

Dariana is indeed the first one off the boat. As she hands the coin to the Dwarf, he takes it, his hands shaking with age, and slips it into a pouch. He gestures for her to stand next to him as he wait for the rest of the passengers.

The lone Goliath, Jorrick, is next, a large grin on his face as he proudly walks down the ramp to the old dwarf.

"The coin!" he says, triumphantly as he produces it from his pocket. He hands it to the dwarf, who doesn't even try to meet the tall Goliath's gaze. Jorrick takes his place next to Dariana, still grinning. He turns to her, "I'm hoping to become a great warrior, the likes of which the world has never seen!"

The old dwarf cracks a smile at this, but does not say anything, nor does he turn to regard the Goliath.

The Goliath looks down and sees something by the Dwarf's foot. It appears to be a tooth. "Hello, Master Dwarf, you have lost something."

As the Goliath bends down to grab the object, the Dwarf's cane lashes out, faster than the eye can follow, smacking the Goliath in the mouth. The force of the blow causes Jorrick to jump, slip and land on his buttocks. Seated, he is almost as tall as Dariana is. The Goliath sits, shocked for a moment, before spitting on the ground, a small tooth landing to rest next to the one Jorrick had reached for.

"Please stand and wait on the other passengers," the dwarf said, his voice sounding as if it was made by grinding the first two rocks ever created together. He was still smiling as he waited for the next student.
