"Yes, please, we should hurry." Kincaid eyes Torrent carefully, wondering if she's hiding anything that she hasn't told the group.

He continues, "I think most of us could find our way to the Depository, but it might be best if you lead the way, as you are the one with a connection to Badgerface."

[sblock=for Kincaid]Kincaid saw no tell or any sign she was attempting to deceive the group. She seemed honest, if nervous.

[sblock=OoC]I'm actually not sure what made you doubt her? If it's that you think she was leaving things out before, that's really just me trying to avoid wall-o-text/giving PCs chances to respond and ask questions. They're not meant to be especially noticeable pauses IC. [/sblock][/sblock]

The adventurers had barely started towards the side door when they heard something rather ominous outside the front. A man's voice shouted "Front door, go!" and the door shuddered under a sudden impact. The boards holding it shut creaked and snapped... but, for the moment, they held.

Torrent swore and took a few steps towards the door, drawing her axe.

Kyrrie jumps into action, unlatching the side door where he stands. He swings it open as quickly as possible. In a lowered voice he whispers swiflty... "Everyone! Go go go! Check left and right for lookouts! Ready yourselves to shut them up if you can!"

He says this swiftly as he motions everyone out. His heart thumping, he knew now he was wrong about what he said for sure. Kyrrie knew he would see combat tonight....

Toby mutters "Time to go..." heads for the open door clutching his shortbow under his arm. He looks around to make sure there is nothing or no one out there ready to jump the group but if there are, he will try and draw their attention.

OOC: Toby will try and be alert and watch for any ambush, etc. and be the one to 'trigger' it if possible

Davaros faced the front door, grabs a hold of his amulet and gestures strangely, and a metal reinforced wooden board appears on the frame of the door. Satisfied, he nods at his magics, and heads out, holding his halberd with his two hands, ready for action.

ooc: action: cast minor illusion
move out with the others.

[sblock=OoC]Ah... Apparently I should have checked the IC thread first. My apologies. [/sblock]

Kyrrie jumps into action, unlatching the side door where he stands. He swings it open as quickly as possible...

But that was as far as he made it, for there was a guard watching the door. She was a human, who grinned wickedly showing a broken front tooth. She wore leather armor and carried a sap. On her right arm was a red band with a black icon, a horse's silhouette above a word in a language none of the adventurers could read.

At her side was a massive dog, that had been sitting quietly but leaped up and began barking as the door was opened.

To Kyrrie's left was some kind of barricade or wall that had surely not been there when he had entered the tavern.

The thug raised her weapon menacingly but spoke sweetly. "Hey there!"

[sblock=OoC]You can roll initiative!

The enemies rolled really well on stealth but nooooot so much on init, so anybody who beats 7 can act before them. Torrent beats them; remember that any of you can declare actions for her if you want.

Initiative order:
Torrent
7 Enemies[/sblock]

Toby is surprised a bit by the sight of the dog... big dogs have never been his thing... but shaking his head the runs forward, and between the legs of the human female! Once clear he shifts his bow to his offhand and draws his shortsword, saying "Hey there yerself."

[sblock=ooc]I am hoping there is a free space behind either the dog or the woman as I am not sure if the barricade is only to the left side or extends beyond. Toby does not attack, but will try and give anyone on the other side advantage on their melee attack roll. As the woman has only a sap she might not be out to kill us yet and so the ranger tries to play it by ear[/sblock]

As Toby and Kyrrie entered the alley, they got a better look at the barricade. It stood about 10 feet to the side of the door, was about 10 feet high, and neatly filled the width of they alley, nearly 15 feet. It was well-constructed of wood, but it obviously hadn't been made in the short time since their arrival at the inn. Which suggested it was collapsible, but the mechanism wasn't obvious.
So unless one intended to try to climb over, break it down, or squeeze past, the only evident direction to retreat was to the right--and back in the direction of the front door.

"H-hey!" said the thug as Toby darted past her. She twisted awkwardly to follow him, leaving herself open.

The massive, vicious dog was nearly as tall as Toby. It snarled at Kyrrie as he approached, then yelped as he shoved it off-balance. The yelp was abruptly cut off as he plunged his sword between its ribs.

Now that the door was open, it became increasingly obvious that the odd thumping noise was not fireworks. It was more akin to ripe fruit dropping onto a rooftop. But much louder. And growing louder still.
Thump Thump Thump

[sblock=OoC]The next attack roll against the thug before Toby's next turn has advantage thanks to his help.
The mastiff rolls 8 on its Dex (Acrobatics) check and is knocked prone. Kyrrie's attack has advantage, but it doesn't matter because that attack and damage roll are enough to hit and kill it.
The mastiff is dead.

Anyone who hasn't can still roll initiative. If you beat 7, you can act before the enemies.

Initiative order:
Torrent
7 Enemies
Kyrrie and Toby[/sblock]

Heart absolutely racing now, Kyrries eyes darted about. He had killed animals before, that was a part of life. But now another sentient being stood before him. The thought was gone in an instant as his training from his father kicked in. THIS enemy had tobe silenced. He flicked his head back to the companions he could see who were just exiting and pointed at her. He knew that if they could take her down in this moment too, they could probably make a bolt for it.

If the enemy had any more dogs though, they would need to be taken down...

Another thought entered into Kyrries mind. He was...coping with all this, like it was just another sparring session with his father.... His father..... HIS FATHER! Kyrrie now cast an angry glare up at the woman as he whispered to her. "Dogs and toothless old hags? Your scourge is NOTHING to us!" With that, he prepared for her retort as his companions worked on their escape.
