A dragon-hunting party of characters

Have you or anyone you know developed a campaign centered around the sole purpose of hunting and killing dragons? For example, a 1st level party could go through the Sunless Citadel and decided that dragons are a menace based on the behavior of the white dragon in that story and then move to challenge the black dragon from Forge of Fury. Done properly, you could craft an entire campaign around dragon hunting and really give your players a run for their money in dragon fighting tactics as they progress in levels.

Thoughts?

It's just another career in a Dungeons and Dragons setting.

In 2nd edition, we had Wyrms of the North in Dragon, not to mention there was the old Council of Wyrms which had numerous Dragon Hunter Kits in various sources.

In 3rd, we had dozens and dozens of Dragons. The whole fun thing of Year of Rogue Dragons wasn't necessarily the 'Rage' but rather seeing the author pull out all these weird dragons and templates and PrCs. Indeed, the adventurers in that novel are a group of 'dragon hunters'.

Dragon Hunting is alive and well in D&D.

The real trick depends on what campaign setting. IN most standard D&D settings, it shouldnt' be a problem but in a psuedo historical one where dragons are much rarer, it could lead to some problems of employement.

Dragon hunting campaigns are not uncommon, but from what I have seen tend to be rather simple. When the campaign is only about killing X you usually do not get confronted with much of a grey are like what to do with baby dragons, dragons that are not evil or even with why you are performing genocid in the first place and negative reactions from others because of it.
So while it might be fun in the short term, long term it might become rather dull, also because you are fighting the same battle over and over again.

I'm not sure if a dragon-hunting theme will be able to support a whole campaign. Perhaps the Draconomicon source books might be helpful for such an endeavor.
D&D 3.5's 'The Red Hand of Doom' features plenty of fights against dragons, and it definitely has a dragon-theme, but it's about a lot more than just 'dragon-hunting', it's about fighting against a friggin' draconic invasion and I suspect that's why it works so well.
