A look at: Airicx Elricus Evanara

Slaygrim

First Post
Airicx Evanara is my (semi) retired character that I thought I'd share for the fun of it. If you wanted, you could always use him in a campaign.

Airicx Elricus Evanara
(1374 DR)

Alignment: Chaotic Good
Race: Moon Elf
Gender: Male
Religion: Corellon Larethian
Class: Rogue 7/Fighter 4/Champion of Corellon Larethian 9

Appearence:
Airicx is tall for an elf, standing at 5'8". He is well muscled and slender, weighing at 150 lbs. Airicx has long straight silver colored hair with deep sapphire eyes. His face is generally unreadable yet more relaxed around friends and family.

Personality:
When around races that are not elven, Airicx can be short, rude, and dismissive. He has a long history of bad experiences with humans in particular. Airicx lost his parents after they disappeared in Neverwinter when he was a child and he feels that the authorities did little to discover what happened to them. He also was raised as an orphan by humans and treated horrendously.
Once a non-elf earns his trust Airicx is a fierce friend, willing to lay down his life to save those that he loves. Among the elves and his few friends, Airicx is light hearted, funny, and very charming.

Airicx is a skilled athlete and thrives on competition. He holds himself to the highest standards and sets difficult goals for himself. While he expects the most from himself, he does not judge his friends in the same manner.

In battle, Airicx is ruthless. He holds no illusion of fairplay. If the lives of his friends are on the line Airicx will use every advantage that he can find in order to win.

Airicx Evanara was born in 1209 DR to Calanthias and Drisilia Evanara while on the Isle of Evermeet. (My initial research was that House Evanara were Moon Elves but subsequent research showed them to be Gold Elves. Because of this, instead of being direct nobles of the House, I arranged it to where Airicx is 1/4 Gold Elf and 3/4 Moon.)

In the year 1222 DR Calanthias and Drisilia Evanara left Evermeet with Airicx for the High Forest on some diplomatic business. On their way the elven couple had to make a stop in Neverwinter to meet with someone. Airicx was to stay in their room at the Inn while his parents went to meet this contact of theirs. They never returned and were believed to have been abducted or murdered.

For a very short time, Airicx stayed at the Inn while the Innkeeper arranged for someone to take care of him. Airicx was eventually taken in at the Church of Oghma by an Oghman priest named Kastian Solluth. While Airicx had a place to stay and was given an education by Oghman instructors, he was ridiculed and regularly beaten by the human orphans. Airicx was also harshly disciplined by Kastien, and often went longer than a day without food. Because of this, Airicx began resorting to thievery. It began with stealing food and drink from the storage units, but that stopped after the priests realized food was missing and began guarding their stock, to breaking out at night and stealing from nearby stores.

Airicx remained an outcast for years, and the priests turned a blind eye to the elf's mistreatment. In the year 1253, Kastian passed away and his son, Irmish took over his duties. Irmish was a powerful man and far more ruthless than his father. Airicx faced routine beatings at the hands of Irmish over even the slightest mistakes, and food became even more scarce.

In 1254, during one of Airicx's late night outings and for the first time in 32 years Airicx saw another elf. Airicx followed the elf to a local tavern where he introduced himself and started a conversation. The elf was called Queryth Starmist, and he was an adventurer. He was passing through Neverwinter from his travels in the North and heading towards Waterdeep. Queryth began sharing tales of his adventures with a wide eyed Airicx soaking in every detail. Queryth's life seemed full of mystery, danger, and excitement, something that was far greater than his own mundane existence.

Queryth stayed in Neverwinter for a few days with Airicx meeting up with him each night, asking many questions and begging for more tales. Eventually Queryth had to leave Neverwinter and resume his travels.

After his only friend left, Airicx began to feel restless and empty. He became more reckless and bold during his late night prowls. Eventually, Airicx was caught stealing from a local store and was arrested. The City Watch contacted Irmish at the Church and had him come claim Airicx as well as pay for the missing food. Irmish punished Airicx brutally and locked him away at night, often without eating.

Desperate to be freed, Airicx managed to break the lock and escape his makeshift prison only to be cornered by a furious Irmish smelling thickly of ale. Irmish carried a cudgel and attacked the escaped elf. Airicx defended himself by ducking and dodging trying to avoid getting clubbed. During a monstrous swing, the drunken Oghman missed the nimble elf, lost his balance, and fell, cracking his temple on the corner of a table. Irmish lay dead.

In fear Airicx grabbed food, water, and a skinning knife before fleeing Neverwinter. He headed towards Waterdeep, the city that had occupied his thoughts ever since he met Queryth.

Many nights Airicx slept in a tree, on the ground, or anything he could find. It didn't take long to run out of food. Airicx nearly lost hope until he noticed fires in the distance of a caravan heading south. Skilled at stealth from his years of thievery, Airicx followed the caravan and stealing food and drink from them in the night.

A human merchant named Gedion began noticing the missing supplies and concluded that they were being followed. He arranged a trap and Airicx was caught. The merchant had planned on turning the culprit in to the authorities but decided that Airicx would work for him to pay him back for the stolen goods. Gedion's caravan arrived in Waterdeep a few days later.

Airicx continued to work for Gedion for a time in Waterdeep earning enough for food and clothing, yet he longed for more. While Gedion didn't treat him as harshly as Irmish, he wasn't kind either.

In 1255 Airicx stopped working for Gedion and began working at the Elfstone Tavern, and was given quarters there as well. From 1255 to 1263 Airicx worked at Elfstone as a bus boy, a waiter, and later as a barkeep. Elfstone Tavern was the first place Airicx ever called home. He was around his own kind who treated him far better than any human he'd ever encountered had, sharing stories, having sparring lessons, etc. These were the best days of Airicx's life.

After eight years of working at Elfstone and hearing the tales of the many adventurers passing through, Airicx was overcome with a wanderlust. In 1263 he enlisted for jobs as a caravan guard and travelled the North. During these travels Airicx was involved in minor battles with orcs, bandits, etc. He continued this work for fifteen years before returning to Waterdeep for a short time in 1278.

During his time back at Elfstone in 1278 Airicx met the person he least expected to run into again, his old hero Queryth Starmist, twenty four years after they had last met. As they caught up with each other and shared the last twenty four years, Queryth invited Airicx to join him and his band of elven adventurers seeking to gather lost elven relics and return them to their homeland, Evermeet. Queryth also promised to instruct Airicx in the ways of battle to become a powerful warrior in service to Corellon Larethian.

In late 1278 Airicx joined Queryth's band of elven adventurers who called their selves Ess'Haereeunmn, or the 'Bringers of all things elven'. Queryth led the band which included the skilled moon elven warrior Saranthalas Runeblade, the dangerous gold elven bladesinger Ezmyst Snowmantle, and the powerful gold elven wizard Nymphus Fireshadow.

Queryth was a firm believer that elven relics belonged to Evermeet, and was angered when he learned of artifacts in the hands of "reckless humans". Queryth's constant grumblings regarding elven history being in the hands of humans help feed Airicx's growing distaste for Men, a prejudice he struggles with to present day.

Airicx Evanara and the Ess'Haereeunmn traveled across the breadth of Faerun from 1278 to 1301, experiencing wild adventures, reclaiming many lost elven relics and artifacts. They'd spend months or sometimes years delving in old lore and investigating dark rumors during their quest for lost elven history. Many quests ended in failure, some with success, and all with death treading a few steps behind them.

In 1301 death finally caught up with the Ess'Haereeunmn. While tracking down the Shattering Blades of Ynloeth, the elves were beaten to the prize by a powerful dual wielding swordsman called Dulysst Hordifel and his band of henchment. After several battles Ess'Haereeunmn cornered Hordifel near the ruins of the Elven Port on the Delimbiyr River. When defeat was imminent, Dulysst Hordrifel activated the power of the swords instantly slaying his remaining henchmen as well as the Ess'Haereeunmn. Airicx managed to evade taking as much damage from the Shattering Swords due to his dextrous skills, but was seriously wounded.

In grief, Airicx buried his friends in a grove outside of the Elven Port and gathered up the equipment he could use to survive his trek back to civilization. Being grieviously injured, Airicx didn't make it far before losing consciousness. He was found by a patrol of wild elves investigating the damage caused by the effect of the Shattering Blades of Ynloeth and taken back to their camp for care.

It was here that Airicx met Cybill Windflower, a wild elf who captured his heart. When Airicx was well enough to travel he chose to stay in the High Forest with the wild elves, building a relationship with Cybill. Here he remained for nearly 50 years, tracking intruders and patrolling the forest with the wild elves.

Airicx and Cybill wed in 1345 the Year of the Saddle, and several years later she was with child. In another sad twist of Airicx's life, Cybill died along with the child during pregnancy, in 1350 the Year of the Morningstar.

Airicx remained with Cybill's family until 1352. He remained as long as he could, but without Cybill the High Forest was no longer his home. Airicx returned to Waterdeep.

Airicx remained in Waterdeep from 1350 until 1358 once again taking up a job at Elfstone Tavern, this time as a guard. He retained a low profile during this period. In 1358 during the battle between Midnight and Myrkul in the skies above Waterdeep, Airicx was among those defending the city. During the battle Airicx was nearly slain in battle but was saved by an old human paladin named Stalus Silvershield and his dwarven friend, a battlerager called Thorquain Reddenhammer.

Despite Airicx's distaste for humans, he and Stalus became fast friends following the battle of Waterdeep. Stalus and Thorquain eventually convinced Airicx that his destiny does not lie as a guard of a tavern and they convinced him to join them on their quest to travel the Realms and help those in need.

Airicx left Waterdeep with Stalus, Thorquain, and were eventually joined by the mysterious and tempermental half elf sorceress Myrista Merlecroft, and the human priest of Tyr Alafan Brinlander. The friends shared many wild adventures from 1358 until 1372 before they settled down in retirement or to pursue their own goals.

Stalus settled down in Waterdeep with a wife and children before he passed away peacefully in 1374.

Thorquain returned to his homeland at Citadel Adbar, where he joined the battle against King Obould and the growing orc threat until a treaty was signed to end the war. Since, he has returned to Waterdeep where he purchased and estate and is known for frequenting shady taverns and depriving them of ale.

Myrista Merlecroft was last reported to be heading to the Dalelands and was considering taking on apprentices.

Alafan Brinlander headed towards Cormyr interested in helping them during their troubled time.

Airicx Elricus Evanara journeyed to Evermeet for the first time in his life. He now resides in the capital and has taken up teaching young elves the art of swordplay he learned from his old mentor Queryth Starmist. There remain elves who recall the help Airicx and the Ess'Haereeunmn gave in reclaiming lost artifacts, and the Queen has considered using Airicx's extensive skills in the near future.

Some of this is loosely based off of old campaigns, and much is added or adjusted to create a good history for the character.

Not sure if anyone read it, but it is something I wanted to put together for a long time. I've been using this character since 1993.

I'm sliding this over to the Rogue's Gallery forum, which is more appropriate for this kind of thing and where you might get more of a response.
