Nemesis Destiny

Grey's question made her actually think about it. Sabynha stopped her sobbing dirge and looked up to grey with wet eyes that dominated her flushed, tear-streaked face, and barely whispered, "I... I don't know."

She moved from holding their hands, to checking for any signs that they still live.

"Perhaps we should try to dig them out then."

Wat begins to help by slowly chipping away at the dried mud as if partaking in an archeological dig. Though it is clear he has no idea what he is doing, Wat somehow manages to do a pretty good job.

Working together you make easy work of breaking into the mud mounds, revealing their gory contents. Two of the mounds contain the battered bodies of human man and a human woman, the life seemingly sucked out of them leaving them mummified in the mud. The man wears the garb of a warrior, scale armour and a helm, while the woman has the look of a hunter dressed in hide armour. The third mound contains the mummified body of a finely dressed halfling male.

The woman does not fit the description of Juliana though there is something familiar about the victims.
[sblock=Streetwise DC 12]From the rumours you picked up while you were in town two a warrior, a huntress and a halfling gentleman were amongst the group of adventurers sent to find Juliana and Orlando but never returned. [sblock=Streetwise DC 19] Amongst that group were also two twin brothers, rumoured to be fierce barbarian warriors. You even recall names: Hamish and Argus.[/sblock][/sblock]

[sblock=If you search the corpses]
Each of the corpses has a backpack, flint and steel, and a torch. The humans have 15 arrows each. The halfling also carries 50 feet of hempen rope, 10 sling stones, and a set of thieves' tools. They have 25 gp amongst them and one of the women wears a gold ring worth 25 gp.

The halfling is also wearing a Amulet of Elegy (lvl 2 item for Wat)
and has a +1 Rebounding Hand Crossbow of (lvl 2 item for Zuri) with 20 bolts
[sblock=Perception DC 19] Sharp eyes reveal a gem worth 100 gp hidden in a false heel of the halfling's boot. [/sblock][/sblock]

Wat sits by the edge of the muck-filled pool catching his breath while trying to figure out if something more can be done about the connection to elemental earth.

Arcana (1d20+7=10)

He wasn't really coming up with anything, so he directed the question to others, in particular, Rain who he assumed had a good knowledge of the arcane.

"So what do we do about the pool and those trapped within? It won't be long until the portal is open again."

[sblock=Arcana check at Wat's behest]Result = 28.[/sblock]

Rain ponders Wat's question as she starts excavating the bodies.

[sblock=Streetwise DC 12]Total = 18.[/sblock]

[sblock=Streetwise DC 19]Total = 13.[/sblock]

[sblock=Perception DC 19]Total = 16.[/sblock]

"It appears that they are the first party that set out to find the wayward couple; so, we still have our task to perform."

GM: To the South east of the cavern a passage leads out and deeper into the strange cave complex.

[sblock=Arcana:DC Hard Rain] Rain senses that the regenerative nature of the pool has been fragmented but not destroyed. The magic that created this pool has somehow been warped and been made to go haywire from its original purpose. What that purpose was she cannot divine, but evidently not to attack and kill inadvertent travellers.

With time the mud men will return, though if the pool is left undisturbed they will likely not bother you. There is nothing you can think of that you can do to make the pool's disfunction permanent.[/sblock]

Rain puts her back down for a brief while and starts moving the bodies away from the pool towards the cavern that they entered from.

"I think you are correct about this pool, Wat. Something has corupted it from it's original purpose. I'm not leaving these unfortunates here so we have to fight the mud creatures again. So, before we go exploring that new passage, I'm going to rest them here so they can be buried later with those other remains that we found in the spirit's cavern." Rain nods towards the new gallery as she hauls the first mummified body up over her shoulders.

OOC: Hi jbear, can the temporary hit points bonus be rejuvinated with healing surges? If so, Rain will possibly take a moment to compose herself (that is, have a short rest).
