Adventure: Delivery of Death (DM: Luinnar, Judge: renau1g)

Iron Sky

Procedurally Generated
WE HAVE BEEN SMASHING THE FRAGILE POTTERY OF VILLAINY BENEATH THE IRON BOOT-HEEL OF RIGHTEOUSNESS! WE HAVE BEEN THROWING THE PUPPIES OF MURDER INTO THE MOLTEN VATS OF PURITY! THE GLOWING UNICORN OF MALFEASANCE HAS BEEN BUTCHERED BY THE STALWART AXE OF JUSTICE!

Sir Exsixten gesticulates wildly as he proclaims the group's deeds, jarring a shelf and tipping over jars that begin to roll or slide off the shelves. He finally aims his axe at Gremin.

IF YE BE NOT A TREACHEROUS SERVANT OF THE DARK POWERS OR TURNCOAT AGAINST THE LIGHT, PROVE IT NOW OR FACE THE WRATH OF THE CHAMPION OF THE LORDS OF AWESOME... AND THESE OTHER PEOPLE TOO.

"Now now, I'm sure violence won't be necessary," Andras calmly states. There's been enough of it already." He then gives a summary of the party's progress, albiet a summary with some second-hand information.

Unperturbed by Sir ExSixTen's boasts, the man takes out a magnified glasses and rushes over to examine the Warforged.

Fascinating,
fascinating. he says. It appears to the an Iron Golem, but the make is very different, very different indeed. If any of you would be interested in trading it, I can offer various fascinating and valuable curios for trade.

Alas, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Montgomery Mordu, simple occupant of this often dull and dreary town. Thankfully it has become more interesting as of late! he says offering some red licorice out of a jar to everyone before sitting down. Your story has verified my theory that the undead menace was created by the an ancient and powerful swamp god, which has been summoned to the island by cultist. This god is obviously creating undead for nefarious purposes and is trying to use its dark magic on the town! I believe young Luc here was living in the swamp, was he not? Look at what he has become due to its influence!

Now tomorrow I plan on going into the swamp on an expedition, to look for more facts to back my claim. When found I shall call a town meeting and perhaps we can come together and drive this menace from our island. You would be the first witnesses I call of course. I know I can count on you for full cooperation. he says, smiling at the party.

Mordu seems to me telling the truth, but you can't help but get the feeling that the man might have a couple screws loose in the mental department.

But perhaps genius and madness are two sides of the same coin, as the old saying goes.

Andras frowns as he follows the man's train of thought, "That... makes sense... I suppose? But, what leads you to believe that this is the work of a god, rather than a necromancer or some malignant curse?" He shakes his head, Also, the golem isn't ours to sell."

ooc: Insight 21. I certainly believe that he believes he's telling the truth.

AN IRON GOLEM! WHERE? Sir Exsixten shouts as Mordu walks towards him, immediately rushing outside. COME FORTH MECHANICAL DEMON AND LET US DO BATTLE FACE-TO-FACE, STEEL TO STEEL, OR STEEL TO IRON IF YOU HAVE NO STEEL HANDY.

He pauses, looking around.

IF SELF-CONSCIOUSNESS OVER YOUR LACK OF STEEL IS PREVENTING YOU FROM COMING FORTH, SIR EXSIXTEN CAN LOAN YOU SOME STEEL TO OBVIATE SAID NEGATIVE SELF-PERCEPTION AND ALLOW THE COMMENCEMENT OF RIGHTEOUS CARNAGE!

He disappears from sight, though not sound, his voice heard elsewhere in the town as he marches about calling the "Iron Golem" to battle.

"Also, the golem isn't ours to sell."
Jax raises his hand in front of Andras to pause him as another of Sir Exsixten's loud challenges exhoes through the doorway. "Well, let's not be too hasty."

He quickly reconsiders, however. Still... we might need him for the zombies. Jax continues to the strange man. "Let's talk after the swamp god is dead. And about that: you are going by yourself? You know about the swamp-frogs? We should come with, I think. Give you an escort..."

Monty said:
...offering some red licorice out of a jar to everyone...
Jax declines the foul candy.

Brenn had not bothered to enter the cottage, instead standing in the doorway and keeping a watch on the area around them- just in case. He stepped nimbly aside long enough for the crazy warforged to run back outside, then resumed his watch. Over his shoulder, he spoke in a calm voice to those inside. "That sounds like a fine idea, I guess. But I don't really think we can wait until tomorrow for your expedition- the weather out here looks bad, and it is going to get worse. And didn't that fortune-teller you mentioned say something about 'the dead will walk with the coming storm' and 'if we don't stop them the rain will turn to blood'..."

Ah, I see you are not acquainted with our local laws. says Mordu. You may not know this, but Anton Misroi the Lord of this island does not allow arcane magic to be practiced here. He believes it to be too dangerous. Any practitioner of the draconian arts always seem to vanish mysteriously... so whatever is causing this cannot be arcane in origin, he would have seen to their departure. he says smiling.

As for your second question, I am well acquainted with the local geography, tales and superstitions. Nothing points towards there being any powerful curse in the vicinity. No my friend, it has to be something more recent and hidden, all my research (he pats the book he was reading) point to it being the work of cultists and their dark god.

He quickly reconsiders, however. Still... we might need him for the zombies. Jax continues to the strange man. "Let's talk after the swamp god is dead. And about that: you are going by yourself? You know about the swamp-frogs? We should come with, I think. Give you an escort..."
I appreciate your concern, but there is no need. I have many powerful talismans that will protect me from danger. he says, walking over to a drawer and producing a jeweled necklace. This one is said to have a powerful protection cast on it. You are better served staying here and making sure the town is kept safe from any future incursions of the undead.

[sblock=Arcana or Religion=16 (no roll required)]
You cannot sense any kind of power emanating from the necklace.

Ah fascinating! he says rubbing his hands together. Did you encounter one of the Vistani? They are known to be able to look into the future, as well as travel to far away lands as though they were a short walk away.

It looks like my expedition might have to happen without delay if what you say is true! he says getting up and starts to shove things into a backpack.

You know, I don't sense any magic coming from that necklace Dorn whispers to the party as Mordu packs. So either this guy is crazy, or he does not know what he is doing.

OOC: I suppose it is only fair for me to to NPC the only arcane spellcaster in the party since nerdytenor is busy. ;)

What course of action would the party like to take? Leave Mordu and track the sent trail from last night at the inn? Follow Mordu? Look around town more? (or anything else you would like to do)
