Adventure: Delivery of Death (DM: Luinnar, Judge: renau1g)

It's unusual for Jax to be doing the chasing - usually it's the other way around. Still, the mechanics are much the same, and Jax has much practice in escaping through alleyways. He vaults over the scattered alleyway debris rather than go around it all, trying simultaneously to catch up on the masked man and to beat the nimble elf in a footrace.

Brenn and Jax continue to follow the murderer. They see him turn a corner and quickly adjust their course, just in time to see him heading around another bend. Once they pass a shaded spot next to a house and run past the killer who is hiding in the shadows; but hear his footsteps behind them and turn around just in time. The man is fast, nimble and obviously knows a lot more about the makeup of the city than either of the two strangers.

Seeing that he has no chance at catching up to the killer now, Andras finds the women and tends to her wounds. She is in shock but it looks like she will live. Meanwhile Sir ExSixTen (watched by Luc) attacks the gargoyles, thinking that they are real.

[sblock=Skill Challenge: After the Madman: Round Two]
Round 2: Skill DC 21

The killer has uped his pace and is now using more cunning tactics to try to shake his pursuers. You must be extra cautious and make sure you don't fall for any more of his tricks.

Again you may use any skills you can justify. Repeating the same skill check imposes a cumulative -2 penalty to the check.

I'll allow anyone to make an attack roll against him instead of a skill check. However, since you are both running at top speed and are winding around sharp corners his defense is effectively 28. If you fail the attack, your character fails the skill challenge since your failed attack breaks your concentration in chasing him. However, if you succeed I will give you some kind of future bonus against him. So basically, it is risky but the reward might be worth it. I won't allow any attack re-roll abilities since you can't concentrate enough during the chase to use them.

Since the madman is using roguelike tactics, Jax responds in spades. He takes care to mask the sound of his footsteps and, once the murderer thinks him lost, launches an ambush of his own with a sprinting charge.

Brenn continued to chase the crafty fellow through the streets. As an elf, he hardly needed to watch his footing, so he was able to devote all his attention to keeping track of his quarry. The would-be murderer was quick, and he was clever, but Brenn was used to hunting quick and clever prey... He did lose track of his kobold ally, but he stayed on the trail.

Both Jax and Brenn continue the chase. Jax uses all the roguish tricks he knows to dissipate into the darkness and catch up to his prey unseen, nearly ambushing the man at one point. Brenn quickens his pace, using his elven grace and speed to tireless pursue his quarry.

The two have followed the madman through what seems like half the village now. Weaving in and out of the various alleyways, streets, and even someone's house at one point. Despite the man's efforts he cannot yet shake them, and he seems to be getting desperate. Suddenly he makes one mad sprint around another corner, away from view. Quickly, he is slipping away!

Both Jax and Brenn are still chasing after the madman, who is getting desperate now and is making one last attempt to outrun them. They almost have him however, only one more leg of the chase to go.

Jax can almost reach the madman as they round the last corner! In a bid to end the chase, the kobold leaps leaps forward in a flying tackle!

Brenn kept up the chase, focusing his keen senses on the tiny clues left behind by the fleeing killer. By now, he had lost track of all the other pursuers- all of his attention was focused on following the trail...

>Perception again; even with the -4 for two rounds of previous use it is still his best choice; 1d20+15= 27 (includes Seeking Falcon bonus and penalty for two rounds of previous use); roll Roll Lookup

Brenn rushes through the streets after the madman and soon finds himself near the place where they first encountered him. His target is out of sight, but his acute elven senses notice a sound of a door beings closed. It came from the large townhouse nearby. Its stately charm looks very much like that of the plantation house where the others found all those dead at last night.

The killer is inside somewhere...Waiting.

GM: The group may now regroup and must decide their next course of action. :)
