The next morning starts drizzly and cold. The group heads out the tavern door one by one and see Jasper sitting on the outside bench. He is wearing a floppy hat and a bit of a weather worn cloak. He has a small pack and a walking stick, both of which have seen better days.

He also has a vicious looking large dog with him "Grrrrrr, ruff, ruff, ruff, ruff". The dog is all black except for a large brownish head. It shows its large incisors and the front of its teeth as its lips part during its snarl and barks.

"Now hush Pumpkin. These folk aren't going to bother you." Jasper admonishes the dog and pulls on its leash. The dog quiets down, but still growls in its throat. "Pumpkin won't hurt you. He's all bark and no bite."

"He better not." adds the marshal. His recent encounter with a pack of savage worg wolfs have reduce even further his sympathy for canines. Hilkalas is as he was the night before, only he is now carrying a backpack, and is even more warped in his heavy tunic. The scabbard of an exotic sword is strapped to his waist, and the floating crystal orb that last night orbited the marshal is no where to be seen.

A human, Tana was well aware, would carry a rapier on her hip, but that didn't work very well for a gnome, so her blade was on her back along with a backpack, which, like the clothes she wore, looked like it had been selected with equal care to functionality and elegance. She might have made her life protecting the Library's scholars, but this was someone who was just as comfortable diving into academic discussions herself as she was drawing her blade.

"You didn't tell us about your pet." She said. "Surprises in a research project are all well and good. Surprises from the people you're supposed to be guarding can only make the work more difficult." She clearly didn't like saying it; anyone who'd seen her in the Shard knew being abrasive cut against her normally cheerful personality. But she felt it had to be said; that dog was almost as big as she was.

Sirrah comes not from the front door of the tavern but around from the side. He has already been active for many hours this morning. His Valenar steed is groomed and outfitted for the journey.

He looks curiously at the hound but shows no fear. A final check of his weapons is all that Sirrah needs before beginning the journey. First his lance is inspected then hooked to the side of his saddle, and then the falchion is secured at his side.

He nods silently to his employer.

Marshal Rickert appears to walk from up the street. He didn't stay at the Shard last night, leaving right after Jasper. Jayce had also been awake for several hours, watching the comings and goings on the street. He had seen the once-elf leave to check his steed. After watching Sirrah for several minutes, he appreciated that the training in life the elf received followed him into his undeath state. Every movement with the steed was flawless, better than his own to be sure.

He had watched Jasper arrive and sit, quieting the dog since he arrived. Jayce estimated that Jasper's control on the dog was insufficient. It would have to be eliminated if it turned aggressive. Once a few people arrived, Jayce left his spot and meandered up the street. His many weapons were a hodgepodge of protruding from his traveling cloak and hidden beneath it.

"Yup. Let's go."

"Um, surprises? Well, I didn't know that rule either. Jasper says quietly, a bit taken back by Tana's tone. But, suddenly he grows a little backbone. "Aren't you being hired to handle surprises? I don't know how you do your job, but if Pumpkin scares you, what are you going to do when a big hungry monster jumps out? Lecture it?" Jasper says a little more forcibly than normal, but then he gets red in the face and looks away.

Pumpkin apparently doesn't like Tana's tone and has no problem still looking at her: "Grrrrrrrrrr"

OOC: I want a party marching order for heading down the road. As a general rule of thumb, the party can go two (squares) wide on the roads (the trade roads are often 3 squares wide or less) unless someone is coming the opposite way. In that case, one party (usually the lower class) pulls off to the side and makes way or if neither party is in carriages, they just go past each other.
