[Adventure] The Race of the Five Horns (DM: stonegod, Judge: THB)

Feeling very much at ease on the overclocked flying contraption, Crush pushes the sled forward as fast as he dares nimbly darting through gaps in the tangled webbing, and ramming straight through one particularly thick snarl. He rejoices at the wind blowing fast and cold over his metal face, and gives a great belly laugh from excitement, "Ha-HA!!" which sounds something akin to a barrel furnace being hit with a sledgehammer.

[sblock=Rolls]Acrobatics +1 = 20 to maneuver through the ropes and lines, Athletics +10 = 28 to smash through a particularly tangled knot.

Rikka continued to weave her sled through the tangled ropes, lines, and other obstacles of the district- her keen senses made a world of difference, allowing her to spot potential entanglements well before she reached them. It didn't harm matters that she was an elf, and as graceful in the air as she was on the ground.

So far this "flying" was an incredibly intoxicating sensation- certainly far faster than she had ever moved before, and being able to move in three dimensions added a whole new feeling of freedom...

OOC:
>Mandatory Acrobatics check: 1d20+10= 21
>Skill challenge round 2: acrobatics check, 1d20+10= 18
>Rolls: Roll Lookup
>And at this rate, she is almost certainly going to take Black Harbinger as her 6th level Utility, just to be able to fly more often...

Vok flies through the space opened up by Ryk, thankful after he saw the acrobatics that the others displayed and knowing there's no way he could have done such maneuvers.

So, no mandatory check for Vok right? I think we got the 4 successes, so I'll wait until the next leg of the race to determine my actions :) [/sblock]

The drow keeps low and tries to get to the ropes, but smashes heavily against the wall as one tangles his reaching arm. He uses the momentum a bit to quickly slice said rope, but he has some bruises to show for his efforts.

[1 success (the max) with Theivery. Loses 1 HS for failing Acrobatics]

The enthusasic Rikka is taking to the air like a bird and easily dodges around the tangle of ropes Bellegon causes with his shinnangians–one of the warforged teammembers is not so lucky. Laughing musically, she skims like the wind.

[Success.]

Crush does not share the fate of his brother in arms and barrels straight through the mass of ropes and laundry hanging in air. He does so while keeping his balance and avoiding further hardship.

[Success.]

Vok manages to trail the others, Ryk's guidance a lifesaver. Coming around last, he sees the banners for the Third Stage. He breathes in as the ropes become less and less, but as he rounds the corner he is almost slammed into by sky taxi! Normal sky traffic has not been cleared from this area, increasing the difficulty!

Stage 1
Successes: 4/4 Failures: 0/3

Stage 2
Successes: 4/4 Failures: 0/3; Bellegon lost 1 HS

Soarsled Race, Stage 3

Same skills as before, but no more mandatory Acrobatics check. However, the traffic has increased the difficulty on all physical skill checks.

Vok is up, then everyone else.

Stage 3
Successes: 0/4 Failures: 0/3

"Watch out!" the elf shouts back to his allies, then draws his blade and in as loud a voice as he can muster, "Stay back or you shall taste steel!" he shouts, brandishing the sword back and forth with the skill of an expert swordsman.

intimidate (1d20 12=32) to divert traffic around us...ok... now this is ridiculous in the other direction... sigh, I hope I keep some of the luck if combat breaks out[/sblock]

Rikka swept her sled in behind Vok, taking advantage of the space he cleared in the traffic- if only for a moment. She looked around, taking in the cluttered airspace ahead- and for the moment, she saw a clear path through the worst of it. She shot forward, waving to her companions to follow her.

Unfortunately she had misjudged just how FAST the sled was traveling- the route she had seen was not entirely clear yet by the time she arrived (though those behind her would have a path). Rikka, however, was still flying along at nearly full speed when a turning skycoach blocked her way- she avoided a catstrophic collision only by slamming downwards in a steep dive. With a bonejarring thump she bounced her soarsled off the side of a nearby tower, hard enough to drive the breath from her lungs, and to loosen her grip upon the sled itself...

OOC: This was a peculiar set of rolls- let's see if we can salvage something from it. My thought is to use a Perception check to give somebody else (say whoever posts next) a bonus, or to spot something that might be helpful outside the specific round of skill challenge rolls.
>Perception check 1d20+20= 40 (CRIT success) BUT
>Acrobatics check 1d20+10= 11 (Natural 1, failure)

As Ryk tries to cut through a small gap between a skycoach and the wall of a tower, he sees a hobgoblin racer heading for the same gap. Clearly one of them will have to yield, they can't both fit through at once. The hobgoblin gets in front of Ryk's sled and deliberately weaves to keep the halfling from passing. Undaunted, Ryk increases speed, apparently intent on ramming his rival. The hobgoblin looks behind him in disbelief, and begins to alter course...too late to prevent the impending collision, which will surely take both racers out of the race.

Suddenly Spring launches himself from the sled, Ryk clinging to his back. Athletics: 30 They sail over the hobgoblin as their unoccupied sled sails under him, and land on the craft again on the other side. The hobgoblin's mouth hangs open as he watches this feat...instead of watching his course. His brush against the skycoach doesn't unseat him, but it costs him precious time, allowing Ryk to open a wider lead.

Seeing the group close together, if for short while, Bellegon touches the control spell again binding Rikka's superior controled craft to others leaving her to find the way and other craft to follow in her wake like herd of rothe following herd head. However concentration it required left him almost behind the group.

OOC: leaving of course control of the sled to driver
Arcana (1d20+10=20)

Crush zooms forward, streamlining his body as much as possible and clinging tight to the sled. He feels a strange physical kinship with the construct, almost as if it's an extension of his own body. It responds to every light touch and flex of his hands, and every twist of his body's wooden fibers.

He hears Vok shout out a warning to the competition, and reinforces it with a jeer, "That's right you sods! You're no match for the Five Winds! We will tear you asunder, and blow you apart with the force of a hurricane!"

[sblock=Rolls]Athletics +10 = 30 (crit!!), Intimidate +16 = 22
I was thinking to use the Intimidate check as a bonus for the Athletics roll, but this seems unnecessary now with an Athletics crit. :D[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]Update tomorrow. Just a reminder: Only one skill check per round, not two. In short: Vok succeeds, Rikka grants someone a +2 to a physical skill this round (no need for the Acrobatics, luckily), Bellegon cannot use Arcana so must make another (one use skill [that's why its secondary]), and Crush's Athletics succeeds. So 2/4 successes and Bellegon up (with a +2 to physical skill or can chose another listed skill such as Bluff/Intimidate).[/sblock]
