I doubt the problem wasn't that catfolk are a bad race, but more that the combination of Half-Dragon and Catfolk seems (no offense) just silly/ridiculous.

I've played a stoner catfolk who during campaign fell from law and could no longer advance in monk so he went back home and got extra stoned with his catfolk family while trying to fight the big bad.

I've played kickass half-dragons and they do rock. They're power houses.

The combination of the two seems silly. I'm not saying you can't work it out. I just find it difficult to picture it working well. I have a hard time seeing anyone pick the combination out of anything but sheer giggles and/or powerhousing. I have a hard time picturing a dragon coming out of their lair to make the beast with two backs with a catfolk.
