D&D 5E Announcement coming February 6th

This sounds off to me, do you happen to remember where this popped up?
At Gameholecon, among other places, they stated that future setting material like SCAG would be in APs not in separate books. When asked, they have maintained that nothing similar to SCAG is in the works, pretty consistently.

I'll have to go back and listen to that one again, because I swear they said they would do more like SCAG.

Given that we just got a "bunch of mechanics"--or at least a grab-bag of rules--with Xanathar, I doubt Marathon will just be part 2 of that approach.

Now forgive me for my ignorance as I haven't been following WotC much in the last six months or so, but haven't they stopped playtesting and talking about the mystic and psionics? My sense is that psionics--and the mystic class--will be central to Marathon. Not sure what else - maybe another plethora-type book, but focused on psionics.

In the fall, my guess is some kind of Faerun-to-the-planes adventure, followed by a hybrid Tales/Manual of the Planes. In other words, the first will pave the way for campaigns to go from the Realms into the planes, and the second will offer shorter adventures for exploring the planes, combining with rules and setting stuff.

This also paves the way for exploring other campaign settings in 2019.

Just my hunch.

There is one more round of public playtesting for the Artificer and the Mystic, and I think the revised Ranger also, still to come. Last word on the Artificer and Mystic playtests are the next, and probably final one, will also be AL-legal. I am pretty sure that Mearls recently said the next Mystic playtest had been bumped back some in the schedule, so it is highly unlikely that one will make it to print before 2019.

Nope, quite the opposite: they've been emphatic that the APs are the model for detailed setting material moving forwards.

One of the more interesting tidbits from his recent AMA is that Mearls described several older settings, including Eberron, as "Core World's" of D&D, cutely stating that what that means would be revealed in coming months.

Since most of the hints indicate a Manual of the Planes, I think we are going to see the example worlds (from flavor text in all their books so far) as planned in the cosmology: very broad strokes stuff, probably.

OK, here's another thought on Marathon. A marathon is 26 miles. In the Great Wheel cosmology in the 5E PHB, there are 28 planes:

- 1 material plane
- 2 "material echoes" (feywild/shadowfell)
- 2 positive/negative planes
- 1 elemental chaos
- 2 transitive planes (astral, ethereal)
- 4 elemental planes
- 16 outer planes

And then, of course, there are other planes - Sigil, demiplanes, the Far Realm, etc.

But what if we found a clever way to subtract two from the 28? There are numerous ways: maybe don't consider the Elemental Chaos and Prime Material as planes. Or combine two of Positive/Negative, Ethereal/Astral,, Feywild/Shadowfell.

I don't know, just a thought...If so, it would mean we're going to see a planes book in May.

Might be over thinking the codename; previous codenames they've used have been vague.

I reckon the MotP type book will be the Fall release, just based on the Planar UA timings: but we'll know in a couple weeks.

Alright, so I've been looking around for the "Campaign settings as an AP" topic and have come up with nothing. I did, however, find two things of note.

First, during the Gamehole Con panel, it was mentioned they would do something more focused for a setting instead of generic and all-encompassing. I'm paraphrasing the quote, but it was "We want to give the DM something they can use for levels 1-20 with as little preparation as possible." I can 100% see how that could be inferred to be an AP.

Second, was from the Mearls AMA.

That one is a bit more specific.

Now, I do remember a comment about expansions to settings being rolled into APs, a la Chult in Tomb of Annihilation. But that's more of something I heard in an interview or podcast, and mayhaps not official.

There are 17 Outer Planes. Don't forget the Outlands!
