A friend of mine is starting a mid lvl drow campaign (lvl 8, class lvl 6 + 2 racial Drow - 32 point buy - 8th lvl $$$).
The party is small (4) and we're making the basic party build (1 is making a cleric, we got a roguish type, a melee and I decided on the Arcane caster).

Problem is I've been away from RPG for several months, and I havent had time to read any of the "new" 3.5 books that came out (Complete X-X-X-X). There are tons of PrCs, feats and new spells, and Im a bit lost. My character would probably be a Wizard since its more drowish (and I favor them over sorcerers), and I would like to maintain spell progression if getting a PrC.

I wanted to know which PrCs are good, broken, etc and specially tips on feats and whats really good to get and whats not. Specialist Wizard in 3.5 got a bit more harsh and in 3.0, is it still worth specializing (sp) ? Any much have items from these books ?

Thanks in advance

I have recently started playing an arcane spellcaster for the first time. I have come to the conclusion that I probably should have just played a straight up Wizard without specializing. I prefer some flexibility, but specializing does add a bit of flavor to a pc. Since you are starting with a small party (4), I would recommend just playing a straight up Wizard (for flexibility) so you don't run into any limitations (like being prohibited from casting spells from certain schools) and so on.

I did wind up playing a Half-Fiend/ Changeling Warmage. I like the class (all about damage!
mostly evocation and conjuration) but limits you from accessing many other useful spells. Since you are playing a Drow, your starting out with a +2 level adjustment already so I would avoid any templates or anything that would limit your caster level anymore.

I specially want to focus on spellcasting, and was already thinking of not specializing. I read last night Complete Arcane and just a few PrC look like a good choice: Mage of hte ARcane Order (spellpool PrC), Fate Spinner (interesting concept), Elemental Savant (not sure) and Wild Mage.
But Im not really sure about any of these PrCs, anyone played any of these to give me a few pointers?
Feats: Are these Sudden Metamagics any good ? Are they worth a feat for 1/day abilitys?

Thanks again
