The producers of the upcoming Baldur’s Gate 3 D&D video game have announced when they will be announcing the release date of their game.
An announcement for an announcement of an announcement. Things are proceeding acceptably.
I'm wondering if we are gonna get an announcement that the decided to announce at Comic-Con as a better place for the announcementOnce upon a time, this would have been the kind of thing companies would have announced at Comic-Con or GenCon. The fact that they're skipping both of those -- which were only weeks before their announcement -- is pretty telling.
I think we're going to see major companies using conventions for news and announcements less and less, even if the pandemic ends tomorrow. Goodman Games, Renegade Games, DC Comics, Blizzard Entertainment, Wizards of the Coast and lots of companies I'm sure I'm forgetting are just going around the traditional structure and I don't think we will get them back.
(That said, I signed up for four GenCon Online games this past weekend and, other than the one that got cancelled due to technical reasons, had a blast.)
