Best Starting Equipment by Character Class

Now that the Magic Item Compendium is out and everyone's had a bit of time to digest it, I thought this thread might be amusing.

Rules
Unless stated otherwise (see format), equipment should be race/build-neutral. Equipment goes by standard wealth for a starting level character as presented in the 3.5 PHB or the Class' description in whatever book it comes from.

You may include the Standard Adventuring Kit from the PHB2, just give a proper reference for it.

Items below the line represent items that cost more than the minimum starting amount of gold, but less than the maximum starting amount of gold for that class, listed in order of priority for the package.

If you'd like to do one for a character beyond first level, simply note the level in the "race or build" area of the format, and use default starting wealth per character level. We should get the first level packages out of the way first, though. :)

Format

Class Name [ Race or Build ]
Item Name - cost - weight - book and page reference
Item Name 2 - cost - weight - book and page reference
---
Optional Item Name - cost - weight - book and page reference
Total Cost: cost / Total Weight: weight

This may sound odd, but there isn't really a race/build neutral set of ideal equipment.

Seriously.

A Light Crossbow makes a handy addition to a Wizard or Sorcerer... but that 35 gp could be spent on a scroll of a 1st level spell (with 10 gp left over).

A martial weapon makes a great addition to a cleric with the War domain... but it varies based on the diety's favored weapon. Not all clerics have the strength to wear heavy armor. Some might have enough Dex that anything heavier than a Chain Shirt is pointless.

And so on.

Then neutral equipment loadouts should be constructed with flexibility in mind?
