EXT. DAY - UNIVERSITY AVENUE OUTSIDE ALLEY

Cindy Druthers is interviewing Gavin, while Juno eavesdrops from the alley.

CINDY
The waitress? Oh yes, the poor dear survived, but she'll need weeks, possibly months of rehab, or so the family says.
Getting used to prosthetics isn't easy. I can only imagine the pain...

GAVIN
(nervously)
Did... did they release her name?

CINDY
(almost absent-mindedly)
Officially, no. Rumor has it she was a sort of black sheep in her family, but her parents paid several news outlets handsomely to keep the family name out of the papers. Of course, that just screams to be investigated, so most of us figure it was Raychel Brandon - of the Edge Communication Brandons...
(beat)
Wait. Who's interviewing who here? You from a student newspaper?

ANGLE: OTHER SIDE OF CRIME SCENE

Cindy and Gavin talk in the background, while Rechard confidently engages the police. A few curiously near him, but none challenge Dafydd, although the commotion keeps him from getting a good view of the alley. Rory stands off to the side, just out of sight with several other gawkers.

POLICEMAN 1
Unusual Investigations Department? Never heard of it...

POLICEMAN 2
Probably one of the new councilor's pet projects. Some of them are into some weird -

POLICEMAN 1
(annoyed; ignoring the other officer)
Whatever.
(to Rechard)
Badge?

OOC: You got 1, but officer #1 the suspicious sort

EXT. DAY - WATERLOO UNIVERSITY CAMPUS

Sandra walks nervously with Steven, her hand idly flitting to where her missing chain would have been.

SANDRA
Really Steven, you don't need to do this. It probably broke in the locker room, or... or even at home.
Besides, you were probably off to class before I... well... before I asked to join you...

She smiles shyly, then coyly looks away to keep him from seeing it.

SANDRA
But thank you, for your help so far, anyways.

She stops in front of the gym.

SANDRA
I'm... I'm going into the locker room to check.
You... uh... kinda can't really follow me.
But please... call me.

Rechard rolls his eyes at the policeman. "It's gathering dust in my desk drawer. Along with my firearm. For pity's sake, we're researchers. Are you going to allow us to do our job unmolested, or would you prefer that the evidence moulders while we retrieve our identification?"

[sblock=If that works]Rechard puts a hand on Rees' shoulder and propels him toward the police tape. "Constable David, come this way, would you please? We've a crime scene to investigate. From inside the cordon. Like policemen."[/sblock]

Dafydd suddenly appears to have an idea, and he retrieves his laptop from its carrying case. He quickly pulls up a program he had worked out a while ago for creating fake websites and modifies it slightly, making it appear to corroborate Rechard's information. "Uh, excuse me, Officer..." he glances at the policeman's badge, "...Cromwell. We may not have our badges on us, but as you can see we do have proper clearance to enter the, uh, area."

He shows the officer the screen containing the necessary information and crosses his fingers, hoping it looks official enough.

"No worries, Sandra" Steven says with a wolfish grin.
"I'll be running home at 1700, I'll give you a call tonight so we can meet up later."
"Hope you find that locker."

Steven heads off to the main building and prepares for class. He'll go and meet up with the rest when he next sees them.

Gavin laughs and points to his nose.

"You caught me. We don't have the kind of access skilled pros like you do, so I hope you don't blame a guy for trying, right?"

The young man smiles awkwardly, hoping he's finally found his out from the interview so he could see what The Slayer had learned. (what was her name, again? Dallas? No, Juno. He knew it was a city. The whole day had been a bit blurry with that smorgasborg of pain in the lecture hall...)

EXT. DAY - POLICE STATION MAIN DOOR

Officer Lizy Weiss escorts Tamas Horvath from the building, a firm - but caring - hand on his shoulder. She pats him once, before...

CLOSE : WEISS AND TAMAS

WEISS
Tamas, you got lucky this time.
I don't know why the store's security footage was all static, but without any hard evidence...
Just be careful. You're way to smart to be getting caught up in that dumb stuff.
(beat)
Don't let me see you here again, kid.

WIDEN: INCLUDE POLICE CRUISER

DISPATCH (O.S - CRUISER RADIO)
Dispatch to all units. Armed assault at Waterloo Hospital. Suspect is a white male with black hair, six feet. Suspect still on the loose. Four injuries reported. Injuries consistent with a large knife.

Weiss pats Tamas on the shoulder one more time, then rushes around her cruiser to the driver's side door.

WEISS
Don't be the stereotype, Tamas.
(beat)
And be careful out there - it's been a bad week for assaults.

OOC: Acmite: Tamas is here, but his background is still a little resembling a blank slate... you wanna fill us in?

EXT. DAY - OUTSIDE ALLEY CRIME SCENE

Cindy drops her interview with Gavin, while Juno remains hidden in nearby alley. Cindy's attention is split, apparently focusing on Rechard and Dafydd's attempt to gain access to the crime scene.

CINDY
(distracted)
Here... my card. Call me later; always interested to help the reporters of tomorrow...

She hands Gavin a business card, and then moves towards the officers and not-really-investigators, beckoning her cameraman to follow.

CINDY
Excuse me? Constable?
(ignoring the officers, addressing Rechard)
I've heard rumors of an Unusual Investigations Department - or at least something by a similar name - before, but have never got a confirmation. Is this your first case?

The police officer frowns at the intrusion of the newsreporter, but is rather distracted by the official looking website Dafydd is showing him - awkwardly holding the laptop so that the officer can read it. Finally, the officer throws his hands in the air.

POLICEMAN 1
(exasperated)
Whatever! The crime scene boys already carted off most of the evidence and cataloged the rest, and the coroner's office has left with the bodies.
I suppose you can't do any damage back there.

He begins to step aside, but holds his hand out for a moment.

POLICEMAN 1
What are your names again? Constable David and...? I need 'em for my report.

ANGLE: RORY's POV

The officers, Rechard, Dafydd, and Cindy are talking just out of hearing. Although most of the onlookers are trying to peek into the alley, Rory notices one young Chinese woman watching Rechard intently. When he focuses more on her, her notices her body glows with a faint aura. She snaps her attention at Rory, frowns, and then slips off into the crowd.

OOC: Sorry, nothing specific for Steven until he seeks out the others, or they seek out him...

"Ah, Miss ... ? I'm afraid I didn't catch your name." He flashes a charming smile. "In any event, this is an open investigation, and thus I'm afraid I am unable to provide a comment for your wireless audience."

He gently pushes the microphone away. "Of course, if a beautiful woman wished to know more about my personal history, perhaps I might be inclined to speak more freely over a bottle of wine ... perhaps at Oliver & Bonacini's, tomorrow, at seven?"

Without waiting for an answer, he turns away and strolls toward the crime scene, leaving the reporter on the far side of the police tape. Looking over the scene, he chuckles to himself quietly. What was it that silly Anglo-Saxon playmaker said? Ah, yes. 'Lord, what fools these mortals be.' Quite so.

Dafydd

Dafydd puts up his laptop and moves behind the police tape following Rechard, looking around the crime scene for anything of note. But he also keeps an eye out for Juno, hoping she is already nearby.

"Oh yes, Rechard," he says as he looks around, "the next time you come up with an alias for me, you might want to pick something a little less... obvious."

Juno emerges from the alley, furtively looking left and right before trotting over to Gavin and slapping his shoulder.

"That was great," she said. "We've got a witness, maybe two. I'm sure Daff...Dafvdy? Whatever...he'll know how to find what hospital she's at. Is he here? Did he come?"

She surveyed the area again.

Gavin manages not to stumble from the Slayer's shoulder slap and smiles nervously as he pockets the business card.

"Thanks," he says, and thumbs in the direction the reporter wandered. "Actually, I think your Watcher's over there with the professor, though I'm not sure what they're playing at," he says. At the thought of intentionally getting in Cindy's sights again, though, he quickly adds, "Maybe we should lay low until they're out of the thick of things.

"So, did you just get here, or is there something over in that alley that's relevant?"
