Build a brick...

First Post
The party is twin Half-Celestial Fighter/Clerics and will be rgoughly 5th/5th when they meet this guy (they are both 5th/3rd now, but got enough exp to level at the start of next session, and will level again...)

They, being C/G, have heard that there is a L/E Half-Fiend who essentially wants to become 'redeemed' (Book of Templates) but sure as Hell isn't going to give it all up without the forces of Good meeting him half way. This means the party is questing for a particular Good sword to offer him for his very nasty Evil sword (and the Evil sword is the best source of info on where the 3 minor artifacts are that the party needs to bring their 'aunt' back to the Prime to defeat the Evil god who wants to disjoin this particular part of the Prime because of some long lost gripe, think 1st edition Ravenloft...)

Anyhow, the party has already bought into the idea that this dude can take them apart and they need to have the sword for trade. But what I NEED is the build of the dude when they go in for the 'negotiations'. They already figure (correctly) they will need to fight him, so what I need is a guy who can dish out a fair bit of damage, but is REALLY hard to kill. The guy is going to be in a building in a smallish town on the front of the fiight between the Good guys and the Bad. When they approach, there is going to be a line betwen two piles of dead bodies, both of which he generated. Basically, he has killed piles and piles from both sides and figures it is time for a change (also, note: he is Lawful Evil and the struggle lately has been between C/E and C/G, so in his eyes being Lawful has been flushed down the toilet, as has everything else (also note, it is even much more complicated than that, but I'm not trying to write a book here)

So- Not straying too far from core, how would you build this guy? In fact, let's say- using only core, PHBII, UAI, how would you build a Half-Fiend with a high STR CON, ok WIS INT CHR, average DEX that wears heavy armor? Because negotiations during/after the fight are crucial, he has to have good 'sense motive'. Because of everything, he has to be able to survive everyting and the kitchen sink, but also needs to be built where he doesn't do horrible ammounts of damage in 1 hit.

Short version- pretty core, he will have good stats (but not all), wears heavy armor, half-fiend (with something like half-ogre or -giant). You get 12 ecls to play with, aside from the half-fiend bit. And please, no uber-munchkin droppings- I absolutely don't want a jui-nitsu 4.5 litre hundyakia ninja priest of nonsenses that can waer heavy aromour while doing the texas two step and wielding a 3-headed Atlantic salmon....

Instead- He is very hard to trick, spells don't work on him much (buff yerself, laddies...), and he can deal a pretty good amount of damage while absorbing obscene ammounts...

It needs to be like this, "OK, you aren't going to kill us anytime soon, but we must admit we're never going to kill you. What say we just order a nice pot of tea and chat about things..., we do have this rather nice sword we could ruminate over..."
