D&D 5E Build/Stats to Sauron in DND 5e

It was just curiosity after seeing how Amazon bucthered the Rings of Power Series.

I remembered the character and wanted to do a Build, adapting it to DND. But apparently, it won't work. I thought some suggestions could fix the initial stats more. But I'm seeing that He's just a NPC.
You can do him as a character, an NPC, or a monster in 5e. You just have to decide how much you want to follow the books and how you want to follow. With LOTR there are the books and then the lore that goes beyond that.

Legend
There is a difference between "he IS a 5th level wizard" and "the only powers that reasonably match D&D spells that we see explicitly in the text are those of a 5th level wizard."

Eliding from the latter to the former does not impress or persuade me.
It is not my argument, just one I have seen before. My point would simply be that you cannot necessarily easily model characters from LotR in D&D. And that is OK. You can simulate the ideas just fine,.

Wait, didn’t you tag this a 5e thread? Why the 3e stats?
Pulled from a different thread that he also started to stat up Sauron.

I know that I may come off as harsh and against @Ragnaros. with his/her idea for these threads. But not really the case. You can stat up Sauron for 3E or 5E. You just cannot stat Sauron up as a PC, which is the stated purpose of the OP in both threads.

The 3E version above used the Deities & Demi-Gods system to create some stats for a deity level creature. A modified form of 3.5 Epic Level Handbook rules (modified as the 3E D&DG was published before the 3E ELH, but informed by the major points of the system, but not perfectly because edits were made to the ELH rules after D&DG was published).

Sorry for the tangent.

What was I talking about again ... ;)

But the Balrogs killed in the siege of Gondolin weren't the same Balrogs that are mentioned in The Lord of the Rings.

The Balrogs slain by the elves were weaker and more numerous than came afterward: Balrogs.

About Sauron and other Maiar. He was more powerful than Gandalf and Saruman:

And more powerful than the Balrogs:
OK, but don't forget Gothmog:

"Gothmog (Sindarin IPA: [ˈɡoθmoɡ]) was the Lord of Balrogs during the First Age, and the greatest Balrog ever to walk Middle-earth. He held the title of High-captain of Angband, being Morgoth's front-line lieutenant as well as one of his most important servants."

He was slain by an elf and at least at one point was of similar or more importance to Melkor/Morgoth than Sauron. Whether he was more powerful is, like many things related to Tolkien, debatable.

Really the power of JTTR characters is fluid and literary in nature. This leads to many interpretations when you try to codified them with rules for an RPG. That is a good thing.

I think, in 5e, it would be best to stat Sauron like an NPC/Monster. However, you could do him as a PC (particularly with epic boons) but I would limit PCs to level 10 or so and make Sauron level 20+ if that is the route you wanted go.
