campaign & character websites

I use the web heavily in my games. In my starwars game that ended about a year ago, the website had news updates and time line updates that simulated news events. Ideally, I'd update it randomly. Reality forced a single update between games, however. Regardless, all the players would quickly check to see what else was happening in the universe while they were in hyperspace: http://sw.angband.org

My homebrew world game which is still under construction ( and will probably forever be given the scope I'm aiming for ) isn't as successful at web integration. I'm aiming for more of a book feel for it. I find the timeline or recent history sections still get used frequently. It helps a great deal for heroes to know they aren't operating in a vaccuum, and that the Empress that killed off one of their clans is up to more tricks elsewhere in the empire. http://www.farne.org

The link to our campaign website is in my sig. It's a new year, so the content needs to be filled in still. I divided half of it into a flash based site (for broadband) that gives you the feeling as if you're walking around a tavern (which the charcaters frequented often in our last campaign), and a basic site which is still flash -based, but 56k friendly. Take a look. Emails and comments are welcome.

Depends on how much tinkering you're doing. If you're doing lots of tinkering, with new races, classes, etc., you might want to consider a format similar to the PHB. I've done that for (incomplete) settings in the past: just a sidebar of links corresponding to chapter titles in the PHB with campaign specific details therein.

I'm not really in favor of really high-tech sites, either, but if you've got the skills, more power to you.

If you're really curious, you can check out one of my (as I said, incomplete and missing lots of "chapters") sites here.
