Candela Obscura Classes exclusive on Polygon.

I crit!

Face, Muscle, Scholar, Slink and Weird.

They are further broken down into subclasses.

The Face has the Journalist, an investigator of sorts, and the Magician, a performing illusionist.

The Muscle are Explorer, a daring athlete, and the Soldier, a strategist and fighter.

The Scholar has Doctor, a healer and surgeon, and the Professor, a cunning knowledge specialist. Funny that fits so many Professors I know.

The Slink interestingly has two opposing ones the Criminal, kind of like an gangster but indpendant, and the Detective, a truth seeker who knows the criminal underworld.

The Weird is the Medium, a psychic who talks to the otherworld, and the Occultist, a practiced manipulator of the mystical.

Beat me to it. Looks interesting. I feel like "curiosity" would have been a better drive for scholars and journalists than "cunning." Slink is kind of a weird category - it has various connotations. I wanna try the game - I love the genre, though I don't know if I would use their setting.

I kind of love that you can have a party with both a magician, in the stage illusionist/Houdini sense, and then an actual occultist. That should lead to some fun interactions.

There is admittedly a part of me when reading Candela Obscura that wonders why I shouldn't just play CoC or Vaesen instead. The latter has much of the same archetypes.
That’s basically where I’m at as well. I’m not keen on the New Faire setting and the gilded dice, meta currency spend, plus getting meta back for using the gilded die as your result just strikes me as too fiddly. Candela Obscura is a bit more explicit that the PCs can be supernatural compared to Call of Cthulhu, so that’s a bonus for some, but having more powerful PCs in a horror game goes the wrong direction for me.
