Last I heard the DNA they were recovering was pretty degraded. 100 year old samples in formaldehyde at room temp isn't optimal for DNA stability. But technical advance are occuring all the time.....

I've often wondered why there haven't been any efforts to clone extinct animals before now. It's all well and good, but I fear it might exacerbate our carelessness when it comes to other species, if we can just clone them.
