My friends and I get together to watch every week. We were like, "Holy crap, they're doing a dystopian future episode!!!" I love how Community can take random things and turn them into homages to all things geeky.

Yes and Yes

I'm not a refular viewer but I do chuckle when I watch.
I also teach at a community college so can relate lol

Is that a particular type of college? I think Chevy Chase is in it, making it an adult college?

Chevy Chase is no longer on the show as of this season.

Community colleges are essentially inexpensive, state-subsidized institutions of higher learning that accept anyone willing and able to pay. Great places for those who can't afford to go to more traditional 4 year colleges (at least, not the whole way through), those looking for summer-school classes, those getting back into the degree hunt after a hiatus, and for those just looking for something to do.

Most offer a variety of credit and non-credit courses, covering a broad array of disciplines- science, math, literature, theater, athletics, foreign languages, arts, crafts- pretty much everything you'd find at the traditional schools, but usually without offering full degrees in most of them.

I think the closest UK equivalent would be "FE College", without the 16-18 year olds.

If I'm understanding it, students are a mix of 18-25 year olds doing shorter pre-degree courses, vocational training, etc and people returning to education.

(Note, of course, the significant differences between a UK undergrad degree and one in the US; where we encourage specialisation at 18-19 and a commitment to a single course of study, US higher ed is far more about combining smaller elements over time, with flexibility to change direction, focus on multiple subjects, take breaks in study, etc.)

I've never seen this show. Is it good? I heard it had some D&D episodes?

I'm a big fan of the show. It has its ups & down as far as storytelling, but on average, the writing is funny and very savvy to pop-culture tropes in general, and geekdom in particular. There have been references to and lampooning of religious cults, paintball, D&D, Batman, Dr. Who, Hollywood sterotypes, USA cultural sterotypes, cliques...

...and people who like taking classes!

I took classes at my local CC starting in around my sophomore year of HS, continued taking summer classes in college, and even afterwards. I took some guitar and language classes there after law school.

My Mom is contemplating taking some language courses- certain classes (like those) are free to senior citizens.
