Good gaming!!!
I found that a decent check was to have the gestalted character follow the Savage Species progression rules: no feats or attribute bonuses beyond those of your class, or in this case classes (no feat every third level, no bonus attribute after fourth level). I also altered the gestalt rules a bit: his BaB, HD, skill points, and saves are also based on his dragon side of things unless the other side is a better progression (not likely). In effect, all a dragon/fighter gets is the extra feats, but these are good enough in their own right.
I'm running a dragonstar campaign, so I have to make sure the NPC's won't kill the players immediately.
