Agreed, charmed clerics could be convinced to switch deities, (players, again spoilers!) but in this case, the charming creature is not a deity and is unable to provide spells. Can easily be solved with the clerics not being able to regain spells once they have been cast. Given the propensity of the average player to kill opponents and then ask questions, the likelyhood of either of these clerics surviving to fight them again is low (but feasible). Should it happen, it could be another clue as to what is really going on...
