Crushing Coal into Diamonds???

I'm not really sure where else to put this.

What Strength score would be required to crush coal into diamonds?

What Strength score would be required to stop a DC-10 in a free fall?

o_O If a person with a 100 Strength punched a normal human...

...would their head explode?...

...or...

...would they get sent into orbit?

This and questions like it have been coming up lately.

What are some examples of what various Strength scores can accomplish?

Well, about the diamond:

1) you need a pressure of 100 000 atm, and a vessel to withstand it.

2) you need a high temperature (2000-3000 degrees).

3) you need to dissolve the carbon or get it liquid another way.

4) you need to somehow ensure a large crystal grows (maybe a small diamond put inside)

5) you need to wait.

In short, you can't simply crush coal into diamonds.

Hey dante mate! :)

It worked for Superman and he has about Str 125...though that may have been Pre-Crisis Superman who may have strength of about 425?

That one will take a bit of working out. I'll get back to you.

Their head would explode if the damage from that single blow was sufficient to deal about double their total hit points.

If they survived the blow you could use my MetaMartial Maneouvers to determine how far back you can push an opponent.

Okay.

Do you mean as opposed to lifting heavy stuff?

Surviving a Black Hole would be a cool strength feat.

Alo dere :)

I was more referring to the movie version.

k :)

lol...how far back would their bits fly?

If they survived the blow you could use my MetaMartial Maneouvers to determine how far back you can push an opponent.

ok :)

Do you mean as opposed to lifting heavy stuff?

yes

Surviving a Black Hole would be a cool strength feat.

Indeed :)

Hiya mate! :)

ello

Very apropos...if a tad oirish. ;)

Fitting since I'm of Irish descent :D

The movie version technically was Pre-Crisis if it was representative of the comics of that time. Since the Crisis in question was early 80's (IIRC).

ok

Depends - some of their bits may just explode.

Would any atoms be split?

What kind of shockwave could be expected?

Loads of vampires in Gods & Monsters, working on them last night...also I am thinking Wights are the preferred choice of servitor for vampires (being as they are ghouls more or less).

What do you think of the following.

Masters > Most Common Servitors

Vampires > Wights
Mummies > Ghosts
Liches > Shadows
Death Knights > Revenants

That could mean your great-grandfather tripped in a bog once. :D

Not unless the damage was on a par with an atomic explosion to begin with.

What kind of shockwave could be expected?

None if the target is liquidated/vapourised. If the attacker follows through and then hits something solid there might be a shockwave.

Oo Ghosts are on par with mummies in terms of power. I'd be more thinking zombies that just happen to be mummified or maybe corpse creatures (Book of Vile Darkness), which are essentially intelligent zombies.

Ghosts have always kinda been their own thing.

Oo more likely my great, great, great, etc. grandfather since my ancestors left Ireland a long time ago.

ok, how bout sonic booms?

As I see it...

Undead of the Flesh: Zombies lead to Mummies
Undead of the Blood: Ghouls lead to Vampires
Undead of the Bone: Skeletons lead to Liches and/or Death Knights
Undead of the Spirit: Ghosts/(Shadows*)/Spectre/Wraith...if anything the closest we can guess is that Spectres lead to Wraiths (stretching things a bit) with Ghosts as a seperate sub-category.

*Subsumed by 'Wraith' in 4E I think.

I suppose a fifth category would be:

Undead of Entropy: Bodaks lead to Nightshades

Other notable Undead:

Boneclaw...construct
Devourer...eat souls
Flameskull...construct
Ghoul...drink blood
Larva Mage...eat flesh
Rot Harbinger...wither bones
Skull Lord...arcane servant
Wight...martial servant

Oo more likely my great, great, great, etc. grandfather since my ancestors left Ireland a long time ago.

I don't think so, I'd suggest that was all handled within the damage of the blow itself. So unless you were to punch the ground or something I don't think there would be any shockwave and that shockwave would be less powerful than the punch itself.
