Current Plan?

What exactly is the groups current plan. As I understand it we are going to stick around long enough to help the army and defeat the evil that approaches and then we are going to go off after the artifacts if we can. Is that what everyone is is assuming? Even if Josefus, Kelust and Parvis can tell us where the location of the artifacts are we going to stick around long enough to help first and then go after the artifacts or are we going to ditch the people at Mt. Ternell and go after the artifacts?

This is a very good question! My understanding is that you guys are going to wait. If that is the case, I will prep next session for huge battles. But that is a lot of work and if you are not planning on doing that, it will be problematic to have something else ready to go.

At the current rate of withdrawal, the army should be back to Mt Ternell in about 16 days. They could make it sooner if they went in a straight direction, but they are in the mountains. Especially with a stone giant on the other side, they are picking their withdrawal path very carefully.

More information

After the following morning's spell flurry you will have a little more info. Josefus, Kelust and Parvis blow a bunch of spells and come up with a little bit more.

First of all, the wizard that last occupied White Plume Mountain was named Keraptis. He was a power hungry individual but didn't like the responsibility of being a ruler. He had "greater things" he wanted to accomplish and claimed White Plume Mountain as his abode. It was out of the way near a great swamp. This did not prevent Keraptis from occasionally reappearing and terrorizing cities and towns. He would inflict evil and harm in an effort to intimidate people, take what he wanted and then leave. All too often, this taking involved people that were never heard from again. But Keraptis hasn't been seen or heard from by credible sources for a couple of centuries. There are unconfirmed rumors about him up until a bit more than a century ago. But nothing since then.

Aside from several stories about how he terrorized various towns and cities, there are a few impressive stories regarding him as well.

Shortly after claiming White Plume Mountain as his own, a huge black dragon flew out of the swamp. Paludeterrore demanded immediate subservience from Keraptis. Instead Keraptis spoke arcane words of power that hurt and infuriated the dragon. Belching forth a tremendous gout of acid, the dragon was surprised that Keraptis didn't even flinch. While such an attack on common creatures was always devastating, against a powerful wizard, it was less effective. The dragon was even more surprised when an unseen force grasped it in midair and held it there. After that, Keraptis destroyed the dragon with a variety of magic.

Basic divinations seem to indicate that Keraptis is no longer alive.

Secondly, White Plume Mountain is a strange conical mountain near a swamp. It is only about 800 feet tall and the mountain is only about 1000 yards in diameter at the base. It's name is taken from the white plume that shoots nearly 300 feet into the sky from the top of the mountain. The geyser is nearly constant. It does fall off occassionaly, but not very often.

Parvis did a little further checking and found another scholar that indicates this is volcanic activity with a ready source of water. This area will have strong ties to elemental fire and water.

For most of it's existance, White Plume Mountain has been associated with devils and demons. Few people visit the mountain, but those that try rarely come back. They report it is a very hot, wet place. Lots of mud and hot water running down off the mountain. Very uncomfortable to be there. Where Keraptis moved into the area, he allegedly carved out one or more areas for his own use. Disappearances of explorers did not change with Keraptis' arrival. Most commoners considered him to be like a devil or demon himself, so the stories didn't change either. The only good thing coming from Keraptis' arrival was the death of Paludterrore.

Thirdly, the angel guardian on the path was assassinated. It was quite clearly done by Notaff Fellhand. Notaff was a famed assassin who allegedly sold his soul to the Hells. Rather than do this for more power, he did it to more effectively sow death and despair among the good people of the world. He is now a Hellish Infiltrator. In those terms, Josefus is less surprised at the angel's death.

More to be posted, but it is too late this evening.

Tormal is planning on waiting at the fort to help assist against the invasion force that comes. Afterwards - assuming everything works in our favor - We should go after these artifacts.

Tormal does stress that we may not return to these lands for some time should we take this quest. If there is anything that absolutely needs to be done before we go we probably should do that first. On that same note he can't think of anything more dire then retrieving some of these artifacts if possible.

In the mean time we should do what we can to help the fort prepare for the coming onslaught.

Hopefully Nockmort will appear with the army. If not he will have to wait, as the damage he can cause likely pales in comparison to the theft of all the artifacts. Unfortunately he is likely the only cure for Oceas

There hasn't been any word of a Treant, in any mental state, with the army. Given that a Treant would tower above a Stone Giant, you would think such a thing would be noted.

So far Tormal and Luvaine are both in the affirmative that you guys are staying to fight out the big battle. Any chance we can get enough votes for a simple majority? Seriously, if you guys are going to be fighting in this battle we will probably need a full session to pull it off. That means a good 3 1/2 - 4 hours. Even then, it might be too short a time. Look at how the assault against L'Reshk went at about a comparable level last campaign. If you guys want to battle it out, that's great. But in that event we would be best served by jumping into the battle as quickly as possible.

Tyrm is all for staying and helping the fort then the artifacts. He would like to send a message to a few people before and after the battle and then the artifacts are the main thing that he thinks should be focused upon.

That's three out of seven. One more would cinch it except for those that want to lemming off on their own.

Well put. 'Lemming' :)

Between the time we arrived at the fort and the battle Tormal spends a little bit of extra time outside the fort. He quickly learns that the animals in the area have completely dispersed. What he didn't already know was that they too had recieved some sort of warning about 'bad things'. Nol, his new wolf friend, told him this.

Tormal will mention this to Kelust, Josephus and Parvis with no real emphasis but as another confirmation.

There are also a couple of very different things about Tormal since he returned from Mt. Korliss. First and foremost is the simple fact that he no longer prefers renting a room out of the inns in town. Instead he tends to camp outside much like he would expect Kind and even Ceru to. This is not a 'rule' for him but more of a preference. Sometimes, however, you may see him stay in a room if there is a reason for him to do so.

More interestingly you've caught Tormal barking, growling and 'conversing' with Nol a good number of times. You may not believe him when he says he can understand and communicate with, not just Nol, but any Wolf. He also says he may be able to speak with a number of, if not all, other animals - but he hasn't had the opportunity. Either he's gone crazy or he's just insane! ;)
