I’m back to D&D after a long absence. Have been running two groups on 5E, and like it a lot. Have been disappointed in how XP is awarded though.

Have built a straightforward D&D 5E Experience Point Calculator I’d welcome feedback on. It’s in spreadsheet form.

XP Calculator Tab – Enter characters, current level/XP, how many sessions before you want them to go up a level and what areas you’d like to award XP in. It gives you an average of how many encounters you need to build out and details on CR ratings+number of monsters needed to create appropriate encounters.

XP Breakouts Tab – Enter in-game XP for the areas you’ve already specified. You can see the progress characters are making toward their next level and opportunities for awarding appropriate levels of XP.

Monsters – Use the monster CR ratings in the encounter builder on the first tab to filter monsters here and get an idea of what would work best in your next adventure.
