[D&D 5E] Securing the Alliance: An Adventure in Tethyr (IC)

Forged Fury

First Post
Round 3

Brue slammed her maul into the gnoll threatening Lorenzo. Trying to keep track of both Lorenzo and his double, the gnoll was unprepared for the attack and took the heavy sledge straight to the chest. Bones definitely cracked, but the hyena-headed humanoid stayed on its feet, if barely.

GM: Initiative
Corilo: 14
Lorenzo: 13
Gnorth: 12
Grimfang: 12
Scheppen: 11
Gnolls: 11
Brue: 9

Top of the order, action is to @Olrox17, @hafrogman, and @Marcelus14. Currently, Scheppen and Corilo are considered mounted. If you want to dismount, it requires half of your movement.

Lorenzo and Lorenzo lunge sharply at their foe, hoping to follow up on Brue's success, and capitalizing on the confusion caused by the Lady's blessing.

OOC: Action: attack gnoll 2 (Q6) [w/adv. due to duplicity]

if condition(gnoll 2) = dead {
Move: to L5
Bonus Action: Move double to M5 }

attack - [roll0]
advantage - [roll1]
damage - [roll2]

AC: 17 HP: (30)27/27

Hero
The gnoll leader gets dangerously close and swings his glaive at Corilo. A good swing. Corilo is not going to dodge it completely. As a last ditch effort, he tries to deflect the blow by hitting the side of the incoming blade with the hard metal bayonet of the hand crossbow. He avoids the full brunt of the impact, and only takes flesh wound.

Then, he slaps Andal on the back, ordering it to gain some distance, and joins the melee just as Andal leaves. He aims his crossbow at the beastman's legs, trying to unbalance him.

OOC: If it's not too late, I would spend my reaction to parry the gnoll's glaive attack. Parry is a battle master maneuver:

"When another creature damages you with a melee attack, you can use your reaction and expend one superiority die to reduce the damage by the number you roll on your superiority die + your Dexterity modifier.

[roll0]

Then, Corilo's turn:
He uses half his movement to dismount in T11 and commands Andal to disangage from combat.

He uses his action and bonus action to shoot twice at Grimfang.

[roll1]
[roll2]
[roll3]
[roll4]

If Corilo hits, he uses trip attack.

"When you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can expend one superiority die to attempt to knock the target down. You add the superiority die to the attack’s damage roll, and if the target is Large or smaller, it must make a Strength saving throw. On a failed save, you knock the target prone."

Here's the extra damage roll [roll5]
Should he manage to knock prone the grimfang on his first attack, the second attack will have advantage. In that case, here's the advantage roll [roll6].

Round 3

Corilo quickly dismounted and slapped Andel's flank. As the horse darted away, the crossbowman attempted to take the legs out from underneath Grimfang, but the gnoll deftly dodged the bolts. Kicking the bolts aside contemptuously, the gnoll growled in anger.

Lorenzo, ever the opportunist, took advantage of the devastating strike Brue had leveled against the gnoll and quickly ran him through while he was recovering. With his opponent in a crumpled heap, Tymora's faithful darted over to the gnoll archer to give him something to consider. The other Lorenzo did as well.

OOC: Updated map.

Gnorth figured he'd get a faceful of Gnoll. He smiles wide and slams his hand down on his drum, the vibratiins of which ring strong for all around him. An echo emenates a few yards away, causing a thunderous clap to emenate from behind Grimfang and his cronie.

"Kaboom" Gnorth grins as he takes his hammer in both hands.

OOC: As his action , Gnorth casts shatted emenating at the corner between q10 and r11. 10 ft radius burst, 3d8 thunder damage (half on a successful Constitution Save (DC 13)). [roll=shatter] 3d8 [/roll] If the non leader gnoll is taken out, Gnorth moves to the square above Grimjaw. If not, Gnorth stays put. He grabs his weapon in two hands. No bonus action

A combination of cackle, howl, and shriek tore loose from Grimfang's maw as the sonic boom smashed him. Eyes wild he leveled blows with his glaive at Gnorth and Corilo but only managed to strike the half-orc. Cuffing the gnoll next to him on the shoulder, Grimfang growled at Gnorth and the other gnoll stabbed at him with a spear,. Alert for the attack, Gnorth sidestepped the spear shaft. Grimfang snapped at the other gnoll in frustration.

OOC: Multiattack (Attack Gnorth) - [roll0] vs. AC14, Damage [roll1]
Multiattack (Attack Corilo) - [roll2] vs. AC16, Damage [roll3]
Incite Rampage (Gnoll3) Reaction to attack Gnorth - [roll4] vs. AC14, Damage -[roll5]

Scheppen is up, @Egon

Grimfang was a tough opponent. For all of the blows dealt, the large leader of the pack was still standing. But Boddynock thought that if they could fell him, the rest might run.

"Ratesque acorem!"

A bubble of acid lept from the Gnome's hand, striking both Grimfang and the gnoll standing next to him.

OOC: Casting Acid Splash (cantrip).

You hurl a bubble of acid. Choose one creature within range, or choose two creatures within range that are within 5 feet of each other. A target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 1d6 acid damage.

Grimfang Damage: [roll0]
Gnoll Damage: [roll1]

Spending 3 sorcery points for Heightened Spell to give Grimfang disadvantage on his saving throw.

When you cast a spell that forces a creature to make a saving throw to resist its effects, you can spend 3 sorcery points to give one target of the spell disadvantage on its first saving throw made against the spell.

27/30 hit points
1/4 Sorcery points
3/2 Spell slots

A bubble of acid flew from Scheppen's hands and expanded as it crossed the field of battle, dousing Grimfang and splashing his ally. The acid bubbled and hissed, eating away at flesh. Pained howls erupted from Grimfang's mouth as his allies pressed the attack.

The northern gnoll archer, finding itself penned in by enemies, turned to instinctive weapons, snapping its jaws attempting to bite the closest of the Lorenzos. Grimfang's ally stabbed at Gnorth with his spear. The final archer moved back towards to woods and took aim against Scheppen, still considering him to be the most dangerous target on the field.

OOC: Gnoll1, Attack (Lorenzo) - [roll0] vs. AC17, Damage - [roll1]
Gnoll3, Attack (Gnorth) - [roll2] vs. AC14, Damage - [roll3]
Gnoll4, Attack (Scheppen) - [roll4] vs. AC11, Damage - [roll5]

Brue is up, @CanadienneBacon

Brue, who had been about to charge after Grimfang, faltered. Schepp's gob of acid was closely akin to the nasty poison attack with Vials in the basement of the poisoner's cottage. She flashed for a millisecond, hearing Greycastle howl in pain as his skin burn, smelling her own flesh being singed by poison. Brue shook it off and stalked forward 25 feet. She arced her heavy maul overhead as she maneuvered toward Grimjaw, then swung, hoping to crack his skull.

[sblock=OOC]Move 25' to R11.

Action: Attack Grimjaw with maul [roll0] for [roll1] +3 damage. Here's the GWF re-roll from the OOC: 6+2=8, for a total of 11 damage.

Bonus Action: None.

Reaction: None.[/sblock]

Lighting conditions: Dim Light

Brue smashed her maul into Grimfang's unprotected back, nearly driving him to his knees. The gnoll pack leader looked as if a stiff breeze could bring him down. He started to look around in desperation, finally realizing that he had bitten off more than he could chew.
